Hacking Need help setting up very old R4i Gold Classic on DS Lite!

It's the one from r4igold.cc. I know it works because I've used it on my 3DS (b9s'ed) several times. I left my 3DS to my sister before moving because she uses it more, lmao. So now I've ordered a used DS Lite and ironically, it is not recognized on this unit! It says "There is no Game Card inserted." on the main menu. I already tried the paper trick (even slid cardboard between the cart and the slot) wrapped tape around it and it still won't work. I honestly need all the help I can get, please.

Did it ever work before? You might need to restore it after the NTRBOOTHAX.

I haven't used the cart for hax yet, but I could in the future. I cleaned the old card up with some isopropyl alcohol, and still no luck. I ordered a DSi and Ill see if it works on that one.
I gave in and ordered an R4i Gold pro (this was before realizing it wasn't the best choice), set up YSMenu on it, and curiously enough, it has problems with freezing in certain games: The Sims 3 and Mario Kart DS.
I tried wedging paper between this cart and the slot, and it still gives me trouble! Normal games work fine, though. There's a bent pin in slot-1 , but I don't know if I could straighten it up with a toothpick.
