Emulation Need Help Opening Saved Files in VBA

I recently saved a game in pokemon emerald (VBA not actual gameboy) and I would really like to be able to open it instead of having to make a new game every time I want to play on VBA, so please if anyone could tell me how to open the saved game it would be greatly appreciated. The error I get every time I try to open the .sav file is:

Error!
Unknown file type /Users/Alex/Desktop/Stuff/Extra apps./Pokemon Emerald # GBA.sav
