Hacking need help in updating me xbox.

Hi, i need help in updating my xbox360 slim. I bought one in Malaysia, the seller assured me it can play pirated discs. However, there are some recent games that need the latest firmware. How do i go in identifying the kind of mod my xbox has so that i can safely update me xbox? Thanks in advance.

You most likely have a flashed DVD drive.

In order to update your console safely, you must take the DVD drive out and flash it with it's stock firmware, then put it back in and update, then flash the latest LT firmware again. To do all of this depends on your drive, and you MUST have the DVD keys as well. If the seller didn't give them to you, ask him if he has them.

Safest way indeed is to reflash back to stock and then update.

If you're on 147xxx and need to update to 15572 then you can download the update from the MS site and update it via a USB drive

Oh, ok. Well, not entirely sure if the seller has the dvd key, so is there any way for me to get the dvd key myself? And how do i go about reflashing the dvd firmware? I googled a bit but I couldn't find a good tutorial. Can anyone spare me a link? Thanks for the replies.

Google Jungleflasher to find a complete tutorial on how to do it.

Methods on how to extract the DVD key from your drive depends on what drive you have. Reading the Jungle flasher tutorial should tell you how to find out which drive you have. Although, I don't think you can flash to stock without the stock DVD keys...

Basically flashing DVD drives goes as follows:

1. Open 360
2. Take drive out
3. Power drive either using 3rd party device or 360 itself
4. Connect drive to PC using SATA cable
5. Launch Jungle flasher
6. Extract keys (using whatever method the Jungle flasher tutorial tells you)
7. Flash keys (stock or LT firmware, whatever)
8. Put drive back in

It all depends on your drive and SATA chipset.

If you have a compatible SATA chipset then you're in luck.
Then you can power your drive with your 360 (although I advice against it since it puts a NO_DVD flag in your NAND)

Otherwise you'll need a X360 USB and CK3i

Then you can begin extracting your DVD Keys with Jungleflasher.
This is pretty straight forward.

The actual flashing is more tricky.
It depends on your drive really.
You can have a Sputnik 360 installed or having a Kamikaze hack preformed.

Eitherway you'll have to unlock your drive in order to gain write access to it.

Everything should be explained more detailed in the manual that comes with Jungleflasher.

However I reccommend a X360 USB.
It's far more simpler then SATA chipsets.

Besides you can get it off off ebay for cheap.

updating a flashed drive is fairly simple. the jungle flasher tutorial is definitely the way to go. with it's nearly 200 pages, it may seem intimidating, but u only need a very small portion depending on ur drive (u can tell by the wires after removing the faceplate). and, it takes u through every step no matter how mundane it may seem.

btw, some of the security updates for the latest two 360 updates have been geared towards eliminating the reset glitch hack, so maybe microsoft has changed their priorities in terms of preventing hacks. though, I'm sure they'll turn their attention towards flashed drives again at some point.

Only the Liteon can be flashed from a Slim.
Hitachi currently not.

Besides, removing the faceplate of a Slim requires you to disassemble half your 360.
