Battle is basically viewed in the 3rd person. You fight on a 3x5 board and can move left and right at the start, not sure if you can move forward and back later. You have a shield you up and your buster autocharges and if you hold down the button, it will rapid fire as well. You get 6 chips in what seems like 3 sets of 2. I haven't fully figured out what the relationship between chips are when selecting multiples but haven't been paying much attention also, but it seems you can select chips that are paired together. Of course you can also select multiples of the same chip. Counter hits are still too as well as the Custom Gauge of course.
Outside of the battle, the game is very much like the Battle Network series and even the 3 supporting characters, much like the main one, could be seen by some as bizzaro world versions of Mayl, Dex, and Yai. Can't comment on the personalities or attitudes of the characters as I cannot read Japanese of course. The "net" structure is change a bit now. When you find machines that can be jacked into, they create a portal in the "net" area of that town/place. Actually getting into the net area could be done through anything from a crack in sand like at first to a small patch of flowers. Not sure why yet. Once on the net, you can find the machines you found portals on earlier. You just get close enough to the portal so it starts flashing then tap it to jack in. It's much like the standard areas in random equipment in the battle network games at that point. When you jack out of equipment, your taken back to the net area, From there you can fully jack out.
The WiFi functions seem nothing more than adding a random friend chip with your friends favourite chips in it as well as some stats boosts like +10 max hp. Failed to find any WiFi battling I'm sorry to say. You can pick an avatar for your friends or "Brothers" as well as draw your own with a fully customizable palette.
That's all I've notice so far.
P.S. Game runs with only minor graphical glitches when saving on the DS-X.
*"net" used for now as it could be called something completely different.
