Well, everyone's been asking for Japanese training software and I think this is as close as you can get... Learn to read Hiragana and Katakana, the Japanese alphabet!

I already know a fair chunk of Katakana and Hirigana. Some of the flash games developed helped while away the time. If there was one that really helped with grammar and Kanji I'd buy it. But I don't think there's enough people willing to buy it to make Nintendo or any other companies want to develop it.

No it wouldn't. But if you've watched a lot of Anime and learn Kana, I'm sure it'll help you out with game menus at the very least

i really want to learn how to read it, but the only access i have to the internet is at work and school, and both have websense, which blocks half the sites on the internet for no freakin reason. can anyone direct me to some helpful files or applications?

Try http://www.japanese-online.com/. It's where I started off and it has a great forum! There's native Japanese trying to pick up English and who are always willing to correct the smallest of your mistakes. Most people are friendly enough to help out with the learning. Don't know if there are still people like that using the forum, though.
