I just played a game over Wifi and it was the first game I've ever played that was unplayable because it was laggy as hell. Is this always the case, or is it probably just because I was playing someone in Japan?

Not the SCSD but I've got it working on the SCSD Rumble. Enable patch cartridge = on (high), Trim rom = Y + the other usual settings.
They really dropped the ball on the online play with this one.. doesn't seem to be any way to play with less than 8 players, and at least 4 of them must be played by the CPU.
There also doesn't appear to be any options you can set other than the playing field in online mode.

Are there any classic Bomberman battles in it though?
I'm in the heart world already and I haven't encountered one.
The online play is confusing with 8 players.
Hard to tell which are human and which are bots.
Maybe you can tweak it more in friend mode or local wireless.

The online mode could've been soooo good, but it's soooo bad with laggy play and lack of options. I used to play the shit out of 4-player Super Bomberman on the SNES back in 1994, and was hoping to relive some classic bombing action. Sucks.
Basically the last DS Bomberman game with added Wifi & boring story mode. Would be great if the did the GBA Tournement Story mode as that was entertaining.
Prefer if the battles were more like the older games, oh well looking forward to the virtual console one.

Not bothered trying the online mode (Come to think of it, I've not bothered setting up my wireless router since I moved house, so I've not played anything online for months. And, for that matter, not missed it one bit
) but the single player mode is very cool
