hey guys! so recently i've found my long lost pokemon platinum ds cartridge. however, once i load it, the message "the data could not be accessed...". i decided to crack it open and see if anythings wrong with the circuit board and i found out that certain holes above the pins have been blocked/overcoated by the green game card (see pic). should i poke through the holes or what?

help would be appreciated! thanks!:)

the pcb is not a living thing that magically grows up, as far as i am aware.
if the card worked before, i find really hard to believe it's the green thing that appeared out of nowhere or did grow with age
i do believe that green thing was already there since manufacturing and if it worked before..
try some alcohol and clean very well, try other console.. the usual stuff

i wouldn't punch holes or stuff trough it because that can damage very hard the traces...

Giving a closer look, it looks like copper rust to me, but I am not sure if those pinholes actually effect anything (I could be wrong.)
If it is rust, then it could be damage from moister.

is there any ways to fix it if it's a problem with rust? thanks for such quick reply guys btw :D

try to look online and info about what thoose pins do, i bet there is like schematics or shit saying what they are used for and if indeed they are the save data ones...
if thoose pins are not related to only the save data, then that can't be it...

Those pinholes aren't connected to anything and I don't think they effect the save data. But rust is a sign of high moister in the air, which can damage chips. I could be that your save chip has water damage. This is all observational and without the cart in hand I can only go off what I am seeing.

aren't the holes made by the printing machine to connect different pcb layers?
