nds-bootstrap reaches v1.0.0, now boots "Golden Sun: Dark Dawn"

IMG_20230831_174819_401.jpg

After years of development and many, many subversions, the popular 3DS application "nds-bootstrap" by @RocketRobz has achieved a monumental goal today, reaching version 1.0.0 titled "Rise of the Sun", alongside TWiLight Menu++ being updated to v26.1.0 as well.

For those unaware, nds-bootstrap is a 3DS homebrew application that allows the user to run either DS, DSi, DSiWare ROMs and/or DS/DSi homebrew natively through a DSi/3DS SD card. The app has seen many iterations through the years, and it has certainly been one of the most developed and long-lasting homebrew apps that are still going strong years after the 3DS has been discontinued.

Today, nds-bootstrap's main developer, @RocketRobz, has released main version 1.0.0 of the application, as well as updating its sister application TWiLight Menu++ to v26.1.0. The main and most important update that comes with this main version is the full compatibility for "Golden Sun: Dark Dawn", which held a long-standing issue where several nested anti-piracy checks for the game eluded playability of the title for years, simply booting into a black screen before. After a lot of research and debugging involving this title, Robz and user Gericom (GBARunner2/3 dev), both developers managed to put together a definitive patching method for the game to boot properly after more than 5 years, getting rid of the original faulty "AP-fix" patch that was floating online for the game, and while the original AP fix patch worked for flashcards, it still didn't bypass all the checks properly to make it run without issues through other means.

The update also comes with several bugfixes to other games and programs, so be sure to check it out and discuss it in nds-bootstrap's own thread, as it also supports a wide variety of DSiWare titles!

  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Organic = $$$ machinery = $ flavor is just marketing
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Plus I think they don't use chickens for target practice at organic farms or something
  • Veho @ Veho:
Nah, "organic" started as a good idea but then got co-opted by too many large companies for it to mean anything at this point.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
This is why we need food in pill form
  • Veho @ Veho:
The "organic" label got a legal definition and guess who owns the people who wrote the law?
  • Veho @ Veho:
So the standards for something to be "organic" dropped like a rock.

  • Veho @ Veho:
I read the ingredients, if they start with "water, modified corn starch" then no matter how "organic" it is it's garbage.
  • Veho @ Veho:
Looking at ketchup recently, it's ridiculous how few of them start with "tomato".
  • Veho @ Veho:
(Ingredients are listed in descending order by percentage, at least here.)
  • Veho @ Veho:
Most are "water, modified starch, HFCS, vinegar, tomato puree (from concentrate). Get fucked.
  • Veho @ Veho:
Gonna turn into a tradwife and make my own ketchup.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:

  • Veho @ Veho:

  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
It's just always that factor by the time you buy all that ingredients you could've bought like 5 bottles
  • Veho @ Veho:
I'm paying €3 per 450ml bottle, not sure how much that is in flooz.
  • Veho @ Veho:
