Well I wasn´t planning to buy digitally. I wanted to buy it in a shop.
My question was regarding to NBA2K18: Is the program itself downloading the necessary files, or do I have to download from eshop even if I have the game as a module.

Check the cover of the game. It needs internet connection to dowbload files. Do your research next time. (Google)
All files are hosted on Nintendos servers, same way Sony host update files on their servers and Microsoft host files on their own servers. Publishers do not host the files as the responsibility for the service would then fall on them and the manufacturers of said consoles do not like relinquishing that control
