Hi guys.

So i'm sending my wiiu to nintendo repairs and I decided to backup the nand and turn it into a virgin.

I stumbled apon FS toolbox and dumping the nand to SD card worked but when I try to test out the writing back to NAND it gives an "fopen error" or whatever that is.

Basically guys, could you please help me find the best solution to backup the nand and if i'm going in the right track, how would I write back the nand to my vwii when I get it back from nintendo

thanks in advance

I see that it's risky... It's in the yellow part. But I really need to do this. I made a huge mistake not keeping a nand backup before transferring everything to wii u. Huge mistake sadly. But could you at least tell me if i'm going in the right direction with this? I'm trying to use FStoolbox but it doesn't seem to wanne write back the NAND backup. And now i'm reading your link it says to make a xyzzy key dump or whatever that is.

How are you going to unhack your vwii. I would like to know, if you don't care.

I don't think the writing part of FS Toolbox actually works on vWii, and the vWii support is only a quick hack, so I would not try to restore the NAND with it.
Once BootMii is released for vWii you should be relatively safe using that but it's still rather risky. As long as the power doesn't suddenly go out it most likely won't brick but you never know what can happen.

Impossible to remove all traces? Not even likely in some time?

Not until a bootmii for vWii is released, but even then, it will be risky as you may brick the vWii mode. You can back up NAND but as of now, it cannot be restored. There are still traces of it being hacked even if you managed to un-hack it.

It's technically possible since we have full access to the NAND filesystem but could be more risky than restoring the NAND backup. And how would you be sure that all the traces are removed without sending it in to Nintendo?
Anyway it would require someone to make a tool to do it, but as no one has done so yet it may be extremely difficult to find out where all the traces are so they can be removed. If there was a way to log filesystem writes then that would simplify things. Might be possible with a modified IOS?

I don't know for sure, that's just what I heard from other people :P Messing with IOSes in vWii mode is also pretty dangerous. The only time I messed with them is when I installed some to run USB Loader GX :D
