Hardware N3DS stops detecting Micro SD in the middle of gameplay...

I lost the screws for the back cover of my n3ds XL and frankly preferred to keep the cover easily detachable in order to take the micro SD in and out more... But it perhaps that's what's causing me problems now. Sometimes on the home menu, it will suddenly stop reading any game that's on the micro SD until I restart the system.
I don't see how the back cover not being screwed on could affect this, but either way what the hell is causing this?

Perhaps just reformat the SD card? It's always been FAT32 on luma3ds.

Check if your SD card is fake, faulty, or dying.

1. Copy everything off the SD card to a computer.
2. Quadruple reformat.
3. Full Write + Verify the empty card in H2testw. Do not skip.

If the SD card checks out fine, replace the n3DSXL's microSD card slot reader.
