Hey all! I was just curious, I've been reading a lot of stories about the WiiKey working flawlessly, but for me it seems my Wii backups will sometimes load up properly, and other times not. However when they DO load up, I never get DRE's... every game I've played has worked perfectly, and I have tested some for a considerable amount of time.

There has been so much talk of DVD burners and DVD media, I'm wondering if it's maybe my particular brand of DVD burner, or does this happen to other people? From what I've read so far no one has really mentioned having to pop the disc back in once or twice to get the game recognized.

Thanks in advance!

My setup:
Wii (purchased at launch) with WiiKey
I/O Magic Dual-Layer DVD Burner
Staples 16x DVD-R's (from what I've read these are perfectly fine for WiiKey backups)
Burning at at least 8x to reduce clicking noises in the Wii

I've been using generic Office Depot Dvd media and it works fine..
WiiKey for me has been working wonderfully.
Only problem is Call of Duty 3 (Pal)
and Kororinpa (Pal)
I can't get those 2 to work at all.
I have a US system.

I have a LG burner and my media are verbatim dvd-r 16X. I used philips dvd+r 16x and had some problems tht were fixed when i set the wiikey to 3x. SSX blur worked perfect with verbatim but with dragonball z and godfather i have problems. When i start dragonball after the menu as i start a game i get a message that i have to put the game disk back. With Godfather i start a new game and i get the same text. Does anyone know why. I burned them with Clonedvd2 and nero 7.

Hmm, seems like I'm not the only one with some intermittent loading problems. I guess I'll just keep doing some trial and error, maybe grab some different DVD-R's and see if there's any difference.

I certainly can't complain seeing as every game I've done so far is playable... but it would be nice if the games would load up 100% of the time.

It's amazing how much conflicting information is out there though.... I've seen forums where they say you should burn at the lowest possible speed, and ones where they say burn at the highest possible speed. For me I'm doing higher speed burns now (because it gets rid of the clanking noises that can happen when a game is loading). Still neither has had any effect on my disc recognition issues. :/

4x and higher or 4x and lower?

From some of the tests I've been doing, I've found that higher speed burned discs (like 8x) can actually fix some issues like the loud clicking which can occur during bootup and fixing an issue I had with my backup of Battle Stadium D.O.N. (Gamecube) not being able to read the data fast enough.

Of course no matter what speed I burn my discs I still seem to have occasional "unrecognized" errors. :/

I was having similar problems with my PIC. Turns out one of the wires I attached to the chip socket was too long and touching another or something like that. All I know is that I straightened the wire, gave it some heat, and now it's working a lot better.

I was having problems with Maxell media not working.. I bought some Verbatim DVD-Rs, and NO problems whatsoever! No DREs, fast load times.. We played Rampage for several hours today without a hiccup.

However, I purchased a new contoller+nunchuk, and now none of my backups work..

Has synching it to the Wii changed something? I took the batteries out of the new one, but now the old one shows up as '2' (even if I only have one controller going).. Either way NOTHING is working now whereas everything was working before..

My setup:

Genuine WiiKey from eurasia.nu
Pioneer 111D burner flashed to 111L 8.29 firmware
Verbatim 16X DVD-R
burned at 6X speed using imgburn

No coasters yet, everything works fine.

That certainly got my wiimotes back in their normal order (older wiimote is 1, newer is 2)..

But still, none of my bakups are working..

Sooo agravating, we were playing them all earlier with nary a problem.. I have no idea what I've done..
