Hey ho guys. I had a weird problem with my Wii U where I noticed that my wifi stopped working. Just to start off with, I should mention that I have two USB hard drives connected to it, with two y splitters so all of my USB ports are taken up with a 1TB and 500GB hard drives. So anyway, I turned it off and turned it on multiple times to no avail. Then I found these two articles talking about my problem.

https://cubethethird.wordpress.com/2017/01/26/external-hard-drive-breaking-wii-u-wifi/
http://thewiiu.com/topic/9301-do-not-put-external-hd-usb-30-close-to-wii-u/

The last article gets into a bit of some technical language, but essentially there is something with the electricity going threw the USB 3.0 cable that sends some kind of interference with the wifi. And it had occured to me that I had just plugged in my 500GB hard drive recently. It was sitting onto of the Wii U console. So I moved it away from the console, and the wifi went back to working. Anyway, I just wanted to post this in case it might help anyone in the future, cause I searched here and I didn't find anyone talking about it. Hope this helps someone out.

Edit: Coming back to this after a long time. Since then, I have upgraded to a two SSD drive setup, and the same princables apples. II had gotten two of these USB SSD cables.

I then got two USB 2.0 extension cables I had lying around in my closet. Even though the cables are USB 3.0, the Wii U only reads 2.0, so they worked fine. I separated them as far apart from each other, the wifi worked, and so did the SSD drives. Hope this helps someone out. Later.

Yo Bro!!! Thanks for these links and this thread!!
Seriously,It was something like this at friend house, where finally he used a wii ethernet adapter to have internet...Because it didn't work after some times...and it was because he has a usb 3.0 y cable!!! It's ok with an older y usb cable, wifi is back!

Had to bump this to thank the author. Spinning my gears on this one, move my external HDD over 3 inches and it works.

This is insane, it never did it before but all I had to do to fix the issue was shuffling my Apple TV with my external hard drive to put it a little further from my Wii U. How is this even a thing? Thanks, OP!
