I have an old Wii from around 2008 that i got at the time and till around a year and a half it was working flawlessly, but suddenly it stopped to play a few games while other ones worked perfectly fine. At first i thought it was the discs, but after testing them on the Wii U that was completely discarded, so i started searching for solutions as i imagined it would be a dirty laser problem. In a moment of brilliance i thought about making a homemade laser cleaner by putting a soft cloth into a disc and putting it on the Wii, and as you may have imagined it didn´t turned out as i wanted...... Since then, every time i put a disc on the console, the drive makes the typical working noises but they are a bit weaker than usual, then starts spinning but after a few seconds of spinning it sounds like the drive is trying to reset (though it never stops) and after three tries, it just stops. Today, after a year, i opened it myself just to see if i could identify something wrong or at least to see how it was behaving more directly, but unfortunately i dont really have the knowledge to know what is happening exactly.

If someone could identify the problem i would be very grateful, heres the video:

Ps: This happens with both Wii and GameCube games

Ps II: Sorry for the quality

The video is unavailable. You have a disc drive that has gone bad. It might be possible to fix it, but in most cases you cannot. I would say to buy a new one and turn this one into a server or something.

TBH i have been doing it for quite some time (around like 6 years old, plus i have a Wii U also), but i may change the disc drive someday, is the only way i can play Wii games with a Gamecube Controller and i dont want to have the discs just enclosed in their cases.

hmm, where can I find a tutorial on how to do this...and hopefully with usb persistence as it sucks not having that with my failed attempts at trying to get into Linux
Tutorials don't really exist. Truthfully it's not that hard, once you get the video driver installed you can use it like any PPC linux PC. This fully updated version has sd images as well, making it easier: https://github.com/neagix/wii-linux-ngx You only need one thing, a usb ethernet adaptor because wifi is slow and lacks compatibility.

oh, if I need an adapter then it's not worth the trouble, back to trying to and failing to figure out Linux on an actual pc

Press and hold the eject button on the Wii console for five seconds. If the disc still does not eject, proceed to the next step. Unplug the power chord from the Wii console. Wait one to two minutes and then plug the power chord back in and repeat steps one and two.

I'm guessing he probably fixed it after almost a year. :/
