Y-cable powered HDDs are required for the Wii to provide enough power. Or as bbking mentioned, use an externally powered HDD. 2.5 HDDs should work fine with the Wii when properly powered

apparently my usb port 0 isn't giving power so can i still use a Y-cable?

Hello,

Your CIOS 250 is on the wrong base (58), it should be on base 57, reinstall it by following this guide == <https://wii.guide/cios

do you use "" wii backup manager "" to manage your games ??

Your external hard drive must be in FAT 32.

Which version of loader are you using?

Test your external hard drive with Configurable Loader v70 or Wiiflow.

Never come across a drive the Wii is not able to power. That's a Wii U issue.

You can use the other port. You will have to switch to d2x v10 beta53-alt to do that but it should work just the same (might have to change the active port in the USB loader settings)
beta53-alt has somewhat worse compatibility with drives and some potential issues with emuNAND but works fine for most people.

It won't automatically appear in HBC, you have to press home and there's a button to switch to USB (but if you don't have any homebrew on the USB it will just be a blank list)
Your cIOS setup looks fine, apart from IOS250, that should be base 57. v8 and v10 beta52 have the highest compatibility, so that's fine.
Some enclosures just don't work with cIOS. But it should still work in homebrew AFAIK. Try some emulators such as Snes9x GX or Genesis Plus GX and see if they can load ROMs from the USB.

Yes i use wii backup manager and the drive is fat 32 and im using usbloader gx v1271 i've triedwith wiiflow and cfg usbloader v70

Hi,I said the usb port 0 isn't working because when i plug the hdd there the light that goes on when the drive is powered doesn't turn on and in the homebrew channel the switch to usb button doesn't do anything and none of the emulators worked

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

you should use a drive with it's own power (plugs into the wall for power).
u mean like an atx power supply?

No, I mean an external hard drive that has it's own power source (gets power from its own ac adapter) or possibly one with a Y-cable that gets power from 2 usb ports.

Install beta53-alt and try the other port.

No, he means a drive that comes with its own power supply (3.5" drives)

You can overcome that part, yes, a Y-USB cable is the solution. You can even build one yourself, I made mine and works perfectly.

does yours look like this (i mean the ports)

Yes, the three connectors are USB-A Male type.

As you can see on the second image (sorry for the bad quality), on the left side we see the left black USB-A connector that goes to the HDD enclosure; on the right side, the white USB-A connector goes to the PORT0 on the Wii (the lower one while sitting flat) and it has four lines (GND/D+/D-/5VDC), like this:

pic6_fa_01.jpg

While the blue connector goes to PORT1 on the Wii (the top one while sitting flat) and it only has the GND/VCC lines, both connected to the black one to the corresponding pins.
