hi friends, today the 512 GB SD card of my N3DS died, this is the first time this situation has happened to me.

I had time to update luma and the console but after that the card started to heat up, with more and more difficulty recognizing both on the PC and on the console and in the end it didn't work. no longer been recognized at all.

I had a backup when I just installed Pichaxx but since then I have updated and I don't know if it still works.

I tried to restart the console without an SD card, it boots under luma.

I kept everything I had installed on my PC so it's not a big deal, I'll reinstall that.

My question is the following, I am going to buy a new SD card, what process should I follow to reinstall my hack properly on a new sd card?

Thanks in advance

First thing to do is format the new SD card as FAT32 and then test it with h2testw. You might consider getting a smaller one, if for no other reason than: were you really using 512 GB worth of stuff on a regular basis?

Afterwards follow https://3ds.guide/restoring-updating-cfw . Or you can copy-paste everything from your old card, as noted above, but you'll probably need to at least update the version of Luma in the backup.

The PC no longer recognizes it, so you can't format it, right? Even from dos prompt? As for me, I use 2 GB SD cards, on Supercard SD and S40 Nokia phone, over 10 years old, and they have never given me any problems. However, a 64GB SD card got corrupted after a couple of years. I deduce that the smaller the capacity of the SD, the more difficult it is to get corrupted (which is actually quite obvious 😅). As you were told, if you don't use all that space, a much smaller SD is better, obviously of a good brand.

Boot a linux ISO (Linux Mint, Fedora, anything that let's you try the OS), open a terminal, execute `sudo dmesg -w` and connect the SD card using the port on your laptop or using a SD Card to USB adapter. You will get a lot more information about the SD card and if you are lucky, you can recover the data of the SD card.
Windows is not very good when it comes to troubleshooting dead/inaccessible storage devices.

hello friends,

first of all, sorry for being late in responding, I have been very busy these last two weeks due to health concerns, then thank you all for your answers, these are all solutions which will surely be useful to me the future :)

To give you some news regarding my problem, fortunately for me, I had kept a backup of my very first SD card when I had just installed luma, because indeed, I could no longer access the data on my 512go SD card, so regarding this old backup, it was a small backup that I had on an external SSD and which could fit on a small SD card, so I recovered this backup and copied all that to a new SD card and I was able to recover my system and update luma once again, I even found things that I had completely forgotten LOL.

However, this situation led me to ask myself a question that you will probably find a little stupid because it is really a beginner's question:

Are all the cia files that I installed with my 512GB still on the nand of my console and if so, do I have a way to clean my nand to reinstall everything properly?

Thank you in advance for your answers :)

Hi buddy. Regarding your question, I can't answer, given that I sold my 3DS a long time ago, without almost ever having used it. Rather, and much more importantly, I wanted to know if you are better, if you have overcome the health problems mentioned. I hope so. 😉

@Nikokaro Thank you for your kind words my friend, regarding the health problems to give a little more detail, we found an artery blocked in my leg but it’s going to be fixed, I’m on a treatment and I’ll be getting surgery soon and it will be nothing but a bad memory. To say it with a laugh, I say that I will have my own hardmod body, me it makes me laugh a lot, my wife a little less, she more worried than me, me, I agree with the opinion of doctors who told me that my health problem was half serious, the only thing that really bothers me is that I will have to stop smoking and eating fat, THAT’s what makes me really sad! :D

More seriously, I really have no choice but to take it like this, depression is never good for health and I have to deal with it so much laughing than not caring :)

Oh I'm sorry to hear all this. Come on, you'll see that everything will be fine. Good luck for your successful surgery. Compared to our health, everything else is nonsense and loses value. Regarding smoking and fatty foods, it is a minimum sacrifice necessary to accept responsibly. Anyway If you want to chat a bit, you know where to find me. An affectionate greeting to you and your family.

People lose their SD cards one way or another all the time. You can start over with a fresh card by following https://3ds.guide/restoring-updating-cfw , as I mentioned before.

You do not need do do anything to your NAND, but you will need to re-install everything. Nothing is retained in the NAND but save data for built-in software.

Once again thank you for your kind words, I am confident and well surrounded, I know that everything should go well, thank you for your proposal, I appreciate the gesture as much as the person you are, even if we only know each other through the forum, I always appreciate reading your intervention my friend ;)

Thank you for your clear and precise answer, this answers my question exactly, since I was able to recover my hacked N3DS as in its first days, having kept all the data (cia games and homebrews with their respective data) that I had, I will be able to reinstall everything without problem, once again thank you my friend :)
