My Nyko Mini Wii Remote won't connect to my laptop?

So I bought a Nyko Mini Wii Remote and Nunchuck from Walmart for $25 (was pretty cheap and needed a controller for my PC anyways), but it won't connect to my bluetooth laptop.

I've tried a normal Wii remote (before you say to use that, it's not mine) and it shows up on the Bluetooth devices page, but the Nyko one won't ever appear.

The normal Wii remote connects but it doesn't work with anything. After it's "connected", pressing buttons makes the connection lights flash and the computer doesn't recognize the button presses.

I've tried several different versions of Dolphin for automatically connecting them but that doesn't work, either.

I'm on windows 8.1 by the way.

Bumping this because I'm considering returning these.
Anybody have any ideas for why it won't connect? It works fine with my Wii U and my laptop detects the official Wii Remotes.

Would it be possible to use a homebrew application on my Wii U to stream the Wii Remote (and nunchuck) controls to my desktop PC (which has no bluetooth adaptor) to bypass this problem?

Issues is one thing, but it won't detect it AT ALL
