Anyways, yeah. I've been thinking about getting an R4, but I'd really prefer to just get my DSTT working again.
Since you seem nice enough, do you know of any reason I can't use the dl links in the DSTT FAQ thread? This is probably the worst place to ask, but... I'm new

I'd suggest an acekard2i (even with the i, they will run on any ds) only 14.50 from zhuzhuchina (12.50 if you get the promo deal without the usb reader!)

^ Also, NEVER get anything with R4 in the name. I had the original R4 years ago, the ones they make now are nothing compared to what they used to be. Acekard has great compatibility and an amazing community to back up on it.

Well, the thing is.. I've heard a lot of good about the R4, and THIS looks pretty promising since I'm working on a basic DS Lite. That and it's dirt-cheap too xD

R4 cards are no longer bad if you know what you are looking for. In fact I use my R4i Gold way more than I use my Supercard DSTwo or my Acekard 2i.

The DSTT FAQ thread hasn't been updated in 3 years, so that might be a problem.


I am going to clear things up because it's appears a lot of people are rather misinformed. With in recent years, the R4 has climbed it's way back to the top as one of the best flashcards because of Wood R4. As well two clone R4 flashcards, one being the R4iDSN from http://www.r4idsn.com/ and the other being the R4i Gold from http://www.r4ids.cn/. These cards all are officially supported by YWG. The R4i Gold actually has one of the fastest updates, both of it's Kernel and Firmware.
What does that mean? When the DSi/3DS updates, the R4i Gold team updates within a few days.
As well YWG updates Wood way more often the AKAIO is updated.
Not to mention the Acekard 2i has a serious connection issue, which the R4i Gold doesn't.

Personally I think the Acekard 2i is grossly over-rated.

Now it is true that 98% of most R4 clones are crap, but the R4i Gold isn't one of them. In fact the R4i Gold is one of the best flashcards on the market.

Just get the Acekard, if you get anything labled R4 you will regret is, the Acekard is still pretty cheap and it the best card going for the price

Edit: what catboy says is true though, there can be exceptions

I recommend you go for the AceKard 2i if you don't have a big budget.
But if you can afford it, go for the SuperCard DSTwo.

If you're Shadow from FFVI, then as a fellow ninja you'll have to accept all of my arguments as valid

If you have a DSTT (especially a fake one), you would be doing yourself a great service to purchase a new flashcart. The Supercard DStwo is the king, Acekard 2i is perfect for almost everyone's needs, and the R4i Gold (Wood-compatibile) is the best budget card you can get. If you're considering the R4i Gold, make sure to do plenty of research and ask questions here before you buy it, because there are tons of fakes and it's easy to buy the wrong one. If you want a sure bet, go with the Acekard2i or the Supercard DStwo if you can afford it.

I own all three of the flashcarts being mentioned in this thread, and the one I use the most is the R4i Gold with Wood. It's bare-bones, simple, and it just works. All three flashcarts have quick compatibility updates, but just consider that the last "great" DS release will probably be Pokemon Black 2 / White 2 (U) in October, after which most people will probably not care about compatibility updates anymore. If you're like me and you're too cool for Pokemon, then the frequency of updates is probably no longer a factor in your decision to buy any flashcart.

I've never played any Final Fantasy games... I've heard good about FFVII, I have FFXI (can't play w/o Xbox Hard drive because my comp is a PoS), but I've never played them D:
