Hacking My modded slim vita asking to format disc :/

Hi guys

I am a complete tech noob and just bought a slim modded vita to basically play old PS1 and Genesis games. I downloaded a few of genesis roms but when I connect my vita to the laptop (I connect it with a usb cable, run vita shell and press Select) my Vita shows up as a removable device but wont open and constantly prompts if I want to format it.

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Why don't you try transfering it with FTTP? I do it that way as my pc will not show the vita via USB

Problem is I am severely technically challenged and have no idea how to do that. Simple copy pasting manually seemed a lot easier.

Have you tried turning it off and on?

Has the Vita been modded with an sd2vita adapter? If so press start in vitashell and set it to mound game card adapter instead of internal memory.
