it was a patriot 64 gb microsd and im just wondering if the sd card died because i had too many apps on there. i had a bunch of gba injects and ds games. i had some 3ds games as well. and i went to the homescreen a few times while playing the gba games. today i loaded up nds bootstrap for a ds game (dementium) and then when i was done i powered the console off, and the screen just went black and the light was still on for a really long time (like 5 minutes), and then it turned off. after like 15 minutes, i turned the console back on and it went to the luma menu (the one where you hold select and power) and i clicked "press start to save" and then got to the 3ds menu, and it said "sd card can't be read." I was confused so i put the sd card in my pc to see if it was the 3d's fault, but my pc wouldn't recognize it either (to where there isn't even a drive letter on it). im guessing it just got overwhelmed? i just want to be able to recover some of the data on it is all.
The card worked fine before this, but all of sudden it just died.

Please check your sd card to see if its dying or faulty. Any errors reported means you will need a new sd card.

    Hello.:)

I am sorry to hear of your SD Card Troubles....that is really not funny and can "ruin your Day".

Unfortunately,it is very common and not unusal today....
But maybe it is only the ADAPTER (in many, many Cases it IS so...)

Can you maybe try another microSD Adapter ?

    Good luck
    Thank you.:)

It doesn't need to show a drive letter to be formatted. Open Disk Management, see if it shows up there. If it does, you can format it from there and/or assign a drive letter.

A reliable brand will last for time to come. That said, seems you got a fake and didn't take long to be faulty.

You should just rely on known brands like SanDisk and Samsung, but be careful not to buy fakes.

Try another MicroSD->SD adapter, if you're using one.

I have a Sandisk microSD and for some reason I just cannot get it to work in my Samsung adapter. It works fine if I use the Sandisk adapter. It's not the adapter as I have no issues reading other microSD cards in it.

To answer the question, no, number of apps didn't cause this. The card was either faulty or fake.
You might be able to return it?

If it was via eBay, as long as he has the packaging then he's still eligible because it went faulty.

SD-cards do fail: all makes and models! Luckily most of them do survive a long time, an A-brand might be less prone to faults but there is no guarantee any card will last forever. Just be aware and make an occasional backup. Take your time formatting and testing it then hope for the best!

you should slow down the backups, there's really no need to tax your pcs harddrive and your 3ds' card slot unnecessarily.

Once every 2 months? You can use an ftp server so you won't have to take out the sd card every time.
