I am currently testing an M3 DS Real (belongs to a friend). The first game I wanted to try was Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam to see if it runs at full speed like it does on my G6 DS or runs slow like it does on my R4 DS. Well... I can't get it to run at all on the M3 DS Real! I just get a black screen. I tried a few other DS games and they all worked fine, so the cart and MicroSD card are OK. I tried the game with both a Toshiba 4GB MicroSDHC card and a Kingston 2GB MicroSD card. Can anyone else confirm that Downhill Jam works or does not work on the M3 DS Real? I am really surprised that it failed because the same ROM runs fine on a G6 DS running the same system software.

Re Downhill Jam - I just had the same thing happen and started looking for answers.. I've tried a bunch of different firmware versions - anything as low as E02 to the latest E12 and all produce a black screen.

ARGH!!

1. You can do it yourself by opening it up if you have found something wrong with your card. Most of the time there should be no problem.
2. How durable something looks does not necessarily suggest that it is durable. Are you talking about the card or the expansion pack? Both are relatively durable if you don't do silly things with them
smile.gif

3. Yes it looks cheap. Plastic looks like it was from a plastic bottle (except grey).
4. Anything can last a long time with the proper care.

I would do it myself if I had mine in right now?
I was asking for maikelsteneker opinion on it.

all in all are you glad you sold your simply and switched to wii? I am about to sell/give my simply away. I am back and forth between cyclo and real.

Cyclo is expensive and seems to be pretty unreliable.

Real seems flimsy, and glitchy... And slow..

I am frustrated, cause all I want is wii compat and SDHC...

I am trying to hold out for the SDHC R4 that they announced. But I fear it may be a long wait.

So Do I get the real, and hope for some awsome firmware fixes (Wii connect) Get the Cyclo, and hope for the best? Wait for new R4. Or do I get that weird Toy card...?

Huh? You mean switched to M3 Real? Yeah, I'm very glad! It didn't give me any major problems yet and it has very nice features for me, like loading clean GBA roms.
Cyclo is expensive and seems to be pretty unreliable.
Actually, I heard that it was very good. But at the time, I didn't buy one because the R4 got the most important features too.
Real seems flimsy, and glitchy... And slow..
Nah, it's just a bit hard to insert, but it's not that bad. Actually, my sister hasn't had any problems on her DS. For me, it isn't glitchy at all! And well, it is a bit slow, but it's still way faster than the M3 Lite. Really, unless you switch to another game every 5 minutes it's bearable. It's a pain to test roms for you guys though

I think the M3 Real had problems with Wii compatibly, as of now. If that's the reason for you to buy a new flashcart, I suggest buying the CycloDS Evolution.

You could go for the M3 Real, the support is really awesome, but if Wii Connectivity is that important to you I'd buy another cart. That would be the CycloDS Evolution in your case. I wouldn't buy that Toy cart (I forgot what it's called too

Oh yeah, I promised to test Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam! I'm trying it right now on my Sandisk 2 GB MicroSD. I'm trying the US and EU version, trimmed with NDSTokyoTrim 2.0.
...
0636 - Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam (U):
Cheat Switch: Off
SoftReset Key: Off
SlowMotion Switch: Off
Results: two black screens

0665 - Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam (E):
Cheat Switch: Off
SoftReset Key: Off
SlowMotion Switch: Off
Results: two black screens

That's the first NDS rom that doesn't work

Oh, OK
smile.gif

-Can you check for hardware defects?
I don't think I have any. Although the Rumble Pack is really bad... I think the glue isn't strong enough.
-How durable does it look?
It looks durable to me
smile.gif
The plastic isn't as nice as a normal cartridge, and you can feel the chip behind the sticker, but I don't think it's going to break if you don't do things like
hate2.gif
Btw, the springslot isn't nearly as bad as the one in the R4 / M3 Simply.
-Does it look cheep?
As I already mentioned, it isn't as beautiful as an original cartridge. So yeah, it looks pretty cheap.
-Do you think it will only last for a few weeks.
Yeah, at least
tongue.gif
I hope mine will last for a few years, at least
smile.gif
and if you can model it for us that'd be great too lol
What do you mean? Do you want some photo's? Well, I'm currently writing a review. It'll take some time, but if it's ready I'll release it in Dutch on NDSS.NL and then translate it to English. It should be ready at the and of this month, but I don't make any promises yet.

Edit: what the hell is wrong with my quoting

@maikelsteneker

Funny I just recieved both my M3 Reals in today

I don't need a pic or anything I evaulated it myself and I'm quit happy that the quality is up to my standards with the exception of the rumble pack that I received with it.

It sorta sounded scary when I loaded it in at first and its made of cheap plastic.

The Slot-1 though was pretty solid, The R4 had really cheap plastic piece that could easily break off at the end of the chip but they managed to fix that with a stronger thicker peice.

I'm gonna be doing some testing too with a regular MicroSD so if you guys want I can help out too

Hey Mr G6, do you know if Wii connect will ever be in an update in the Real? I know it works on the G6 but not the M3, do you know why?

I'll try both the US and EU version right away!

Using Sandisk 2 GB MicroSD:
0636 - Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam (U):
Cheat Switch: Off
SoftReset Key: L+R+B+A+X
Slowmotion Switch: Off
Results: There is slowdown, but the game isn't unplayable at all! I wonder how good it'll run on my Kingston 1 GB...

0665 - Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam (E):
Cheat Switch: Off
SoftReset Key: L+R+B+A+X
Slowmotion Switch: Off
Results: There is slowdown, but the game isn't unplayable at all! The results are about the same as the US version.

I'll test with my Kingston 1 GB in a few minutes.

...

Wow. The OS is incredibly fast with this SD-card! The icons are just... to fast
wtf.gif
I wonder how Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam runs...

Using Kingston (Japanese) 1 GB MicroSD:
0636 - Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam (U):
Cheat Switch: Off
SoftReset Key: L+R+B+A+X
Slowmotion Switch: Off
Results: The loading times seem to be longer... There is less slowdown than with the Sandisk 2 GB, but the EU version runs a lot better!

0665 - Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam (E):
Cheat Switch: Off
SoftReset Key: L+R+B+A+X
Slowmotion Switch: Off
Results: I don't know... There may have been slowdown, but in fact, I didn't notice it at all!

I don't understand why the new M3 DS Real couldn't run Downhill Jam earlier.

The M3 Simply was able to fine. Didn't fix the slowdown issue though

We're left with the same problem we had earlier with the simply.

I don't understand why the new M3 DS Real couldn't run Downhill Jam earlier. There were more games, like Tony Hawk's American Sk8land, which didn't work in the beginning. It's not a big deal, about all games should work now. I'm sure the R4 didn't have 100% compatibly in the beginning either.

I don't think they can fix it

I haven't found any cart that fixed this problem. Same goes for Castlevani: Potrait of Ruin.QUOTE(c2ironfist @ Dec 8 2007, 05:19 PM)We're left with the same problem we had earlier with the simply.
As I already said, this problem will probably always exist, on every flashcart. I think even RAM can't make it run better.

But who cares? Proving Grounds is released now

I guess I can see why it took the M3 team so long to release it outside of China. They still had a lot of fixes left with the firmware. I guess they gave in and released it early, thats probably why there were so man bugs compared to the R4/M3 Simply.

Actually I like the Old Tony Hawk American Sk8ter better for the DS. I think it was the art style that I liked.

Downhill jam and Castlevania worked without slowdowns for me on Acekard RPG, Supercard ONEv2 (with kingson 1gb japan... if i remember correctly).

I also thought i heard it also worked fine with G6real, N-card & clones, Cyclops DS.

Could anyone test Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow intro? On my sandisk 6gb and 2gb is laggy as hell (on m3 lite with 2gb card its working fine). I'd tried different cluster sizes - still no luck.
