Here in Chile we´re free to get what do we want, "at least now".

Anyway, changing your ISP would help?

(You might try to convince your parents about that..)

Try PeerGuardian for Windows or moblocker for linux.

peerguardian is old and unsupported. it's peerblock now. and it really isn't going to much good. it only blocks known ip's. if someone is out there looking for piracy all they have to do to beat pearblock is have an ip that isn't on your block list. the safest way to use torrents is to join a private site.

wow that stinks.....this is why when i need a copy of something(final fantasy 7) i go to my library that has unlocked wifi and no sercurty:)

unlocked wifi and no security can only go so far if they log your mac address. you should probably spoof your mac address too if you want to use that as an excuse.

sorry i wasn't thinking public library. that's a good idea.

Can the same thing happen if you use Megaupload?
Megaupload is a direct download site, not a torrent site. It's much harder to track direct downloads, thus safer. I use torrents anyway (private trackers).

you should be fine using megaupload. no one ever gets caught downloading. you typically only get caught by uploading. hence why torrent are targeted. with torrents if your downloading you're uploading to. with megaupload or rapidshare they usually just have the file in question pulled.

This must be a joke.

Not sure if it's a joke, but they can do that as long as the isp doesn't give dynamic ip's.

It doesn't have anything to do with whether you have a dynamic IP or not, that only matters when you're banned from a website by IP. This guy had his internet completely shut off by his ISP.

It's perfectly legal to download a game if you own the original copy of it. You should have played that card!!
Not true. It's only legal to make a backup of your own personal disk. You can't get it from the internet for any reason.

It's really debatable if even backups straight from the disc are legal, many corporate giants would fight to say that it isn't. It's technically illegal to rip some CDs, or view a movie on multiple TVs in your house.

Copyright laws (usually) suck ass and work in favor of the people who want tons of money from you. It sucks :|

If you have a connection to somebody on the internet, they have your external IP (or that of the proxy you're using).

Then they send out legal notices, and your ISP and the proxies in question have a choice.

1 - Be taken out for harboring criminal activity.
2 - Give up your information.

Which one do you think they're going to do? Yes, proxies will gladly turn over any records to avoid legal trouble. All that's needed is proof of what came from them (your connection AFTER the proxy), and the proxy will show them what happened before them (your connection TO the proxy), and bam they have your IP and can then contact your ISP and get the needed records.

Not using sharing services simply gives them less of a REASON to go after you. It means you're not uploading, which means they have less of a case against you and can't levy a million dollar fine on you to make an example out of you. However it's still illegal and still EASILY trackable!

Do NOT tell people shit can't be tracked when it can!Anything you're doing online can be tracked by your ISP.

Don't fool yourself into thinking otherwise, that's how you get one of these letters...

Indeed. The only time I've ever seen an official saying that backups are okay were in the fronts of Wii and DS game manuals, where it says you can have a single backup, but you must back it up yourself, and it can only ever be used if the original copy is destroyed (e.g. in a fire).
