More battle royale action is on the way, but this time, with an anime spin. A new issue of Weekly Jump has announced My Hero Academia: Ultra Rumble, which is set to be a free-to-play third-person battle royale with 24 players, following recent industry trends. The two magazine pages show a handful of screenshots of the game, showing some of the main heroes and villains from the manga series. According to the Japanese text, Ultra Rumble is headed to Xbox One, Steam, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch, with no release window, and a closed beta test planned for the future.

A handful of My Hero Academia games have been released in the past few years, including the console titles My Hero One's Justice and its sequel, as well as various mobile gacha games.

Meh.. Why can't we have a "Naruto Shippuden UN Storm" like game, or even "DB FighterZ" for MHA?

My hero's one justice 1&2 already had no effort put in telling the story like Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm 2-4 did and the combat system also felt way worse.
Changing it to a battle royale seems to be the logical conclusion to not putting in any effort beforehand as well.

Of course it’s going to be a microtransaction trash fire, but of course people are going to suck it up like a sponge in water.

The fanbase for MHA is as bad as Naruto’s fanbase back when it was the hottest anime. You disagree with them, get blasted by fanboys.

A shame that anime fans don't care about a game being good. They still buy/play bad games anyways just because anime characters are in them.

Battle Royale with in-app purchase? Sounds like something I should avoid like a plague, especially if it turns out to be online-based too.
I'd rather pay for a offline, single-player game with all contents unlocked than play a free game with a paywall. Sorry, Todoroki, I won't play this one for sure.

Okay, when is this gonna occur, in-universe? Because while I don't watch the anime much, and have never touched a single manga in my life, I do read wikis and some major shit went down in the Pro Liberation Army arc a while back- like, Aizawa got severely injured, Midoriya left school, Midnight's retired, etc.

Or is it just gonna ignore the manga and just have a bunch of MHA characters available to brawl, regardless of whether it makes canon sense or not?

Battle Royales are trash.
They're fine, especially the bigger ones. The problem is a lot of ones are just lazy cash grabs trying to chase the trend because Fortnite, PUBG, Apex, and COD Warzone are all so popular. We've got stuff like FFVII First Soldier, the Kitchen one that started as a parody, then ditched that, there's some isometric cutout style thing with animals, CSGO's battle royale mode, and a handful of other mediocre to bad ones nobody really plays.

Let me guess it sounded like Fortnite Battle Royale? One guy from My Hero Academia looks like mix between Overlander from The Boys and Donald Trump on steroids.

i think i heard of that, it's a good idea, shouldn't need a dedicated GPU just to run a LLM or video upscaling
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the nvidia shield tv has AI video upscaling
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
LLMs can be run on cpu anyway but it's quite slow

Have you ever been beaten by a wet spaghetti noodle by your girlfriend because she has a twin sister, and you got confused and fucked her dad?

I had a girlfriend who had a twin sister and they would mess with me constantly.... Until one chipped a tooth then finally I could tell them apart.... Lol

They would have the same hair style the same clothes everything... Really messed with my head lol

@The Real Jdbye, I could see AMD trying to pull off the CPU GPU tandem thing, would be a way to maybe close the gap a bit with Nvidia. Plus it would kinda put Nvidia at a future disadvantage since Nvidia can't make X86/64 CPUs? Intel and AMD licensing issues... I wonder how much that has held back innovation.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i don't think nvidia wants to get in the x64 cpu market anyways
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
you've seen how much intel is struggling getting into the gpu market
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
and nvidia is already doing ARM

i don't think they want to take more focus away from their gpus
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Yeah I think Nvidia s future lays in AI GPU acceleration stuff if they can get that going it's going to be super interesting in the long term

AI assisted game creation might become a thing

At least that's something I think would be pretty cool.

Many TBs of assets and the programming of something like that is going to be tough but I think it's something we might see in 20 years maybe sooner
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Psionic Roshambo AI assisted game creation is kinda already here, there was recently that AI that can turn any 2D image into a fully modeled 3D object, it's not perfect, but it's a starting point, beats starting from zero
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
before that there was one to generate a fully modeled scene from a 2D image
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but most recently, there was one that actually generates a working unity scene with terrain and textures already set up that you can import right into unity, that's a huge time saver right there
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
and using LLMs to generate NPC dialogue and even dynamically generated quests is something i'm sure is already happening
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
will just take some time for games made using those things to be completed and released
