I was just sitting around and thinking of how they could change the DS from how it currently is, and I was stumped until a commercial for the iPod touch came on and I was looking at my DS sideways.

Awful paint job, I know.

But I'm liking this more and more I think about it. It would be as thin as the DS stylus is fat, so very. There would be no GBA slot, but more ram and crap like that, you all know what it would have from the numerous rumor threads.

The only thing would be is that it would have to be a little longer than the Lite currently is. I was pretending to play my DS like this one would be played, and there didn't seem to be enough room to hold onto the bottom, so making it longer would have to be done.

Discuss / flame my paint skills.

Imagine how hard it would be holding a device where the buttons are located right at the bottom? The weight acting on the top of the device would make it hard to keep holding for long (something like low mechanical advantage

Nice design, but impractical. Buttons would get in the way of using the touch screen, and there isn't a way to use both the touch screen and buttons at the same time. The most you can hope for is still the clamshell design, but perhaps thinner/lighter etc - a make-over similar to the PSP Slim and Lite.

I agree with 4saken, nice design, but very impractical. I would be very uncomfortable to hold a device like that.

If the thing were like the size of an iPhone it might work, then again you wouldnt be able to access the buttons easily. And with the screens oriented like that on it seems like one shell, just make a giant screen I guess, lol.

Yeah, I was holding it like that and it did seem top heavy, but I was kinda going for an original Game Boy type look, and couldn't put the buttons elsewhere anyways

The iPhone size was the exact thing that I thought would make this work. Slightly longer than the DS, but still sleek enough to work

I'm afraid this would give me major handcramps (especially those trigger buttons). Anyways is there really anything wrong with the current model? I can hardly find any flaws ...

You won't be able to play some games like MPH
Wrong = because the *real* innovation behind the DS2 is that you control it by thought ! It senses your brainwaves and translates that into action on the screens, making the buttons and stylus redundant.

Should be released Q2 2008 and will come with a free flashcart so you can download your favorite games (which will be posted to the internet directly by the developers at least a week prior to the retail release date) right off the bat.

sleep mode? Hotel dusk requires you to close the DS to solve one of its puzzles.

Re the mockup: It would be hard to hold on to and top heavy. The controls would be too squished and your hands would overlap in the back.

+1 on that it will be similar to the redesign of PSP -> PSP Slim. The DS Lite's design is the most efficient so logically making it smaller by removing the GBA slot would mean it would just get as thin as it could on the bottom part. This might actually be a bad move though because if it were thinner than the Lite it might be hard for many people to hold onto (I sometimes have had the Lite slip out of my hands while laying down and playing). The interesting part about the redesign to me is the addition of internal storage.

its cute

cons: hands would overlaps in the back, no shoulder buttons seen, and how would you put it to sleep mode?
