My computer is running slow what steps can I do to fix it?
Clear up your hard drive - the more full it is, the slower it's likely to run.
Also defrag your hard drive. You can find the defrag tool in System Tools under Accessories on the Start Menu.
Do a virus/spyware scan - it could be spyware or a virus that's running in the background and eating up RAM.
What muckers said and also try the following.
Start Menu -> run -> and type in 'msconfig'. go to the startup tab and have a look at what you can disable. Most programs you don't need to run at startup, or have running in the system tray. If you're not sure what to deselect I suggest you research them first.
Sometimes reinstalling Windows is the easiest solution to sort out slow downs. That's if you don't mind reinstalling all your apps again.
I just Googled your question and came up with a gazillion of answers.
This seems like a good one:
Or he might have tons of programs open, you never know because he didn't give much information.
Use CCleaner. It will get rid of a lot of useless junk just be careful with it.
Forget al that crap , they doesn't speed up but just slow's down your systen . Reinstal windows then your pc will be faster and clean
how does disabling startup programs slow down your computer...
It doesn't,it speeds it up
http://www.pcdecrapifier.com/ is a good app that should help.
Do what I do: reinstall Windows and always check msconfig and remove stuff you don't need.
upgrade or overclock ur system
Huge n00b here, if you just do that in a few mores weeks you'll run into the same issue.
no not noob, ur the noob here. if u dont know anything about overclocking and getting it stable, then quiet. idk if this guy who posted is noob, but to say "overclock" isnt noob if u know what your doing with good cooling, do me a favor and shut the hell up.
ccleaner, tune up an all progama's which seem to have speed up your computer / clean up your pc ... But they cost too much trouble to maintain them. Some of them cost money , and if you do not use them anymore and remove them they leave traces into the Windows registry ,and this can cause problems later. I have a new laptop and stay far away of all those clean progammas, I have my laptop 1 months'and before you install some stuff think before? Do I need it? What can I do with it? Before you ruin you PC with a load of installs: P
What is best thing to do is to completely reinstall windows, after that get the lastestSP and security updates , get a decent A / V (Avira/Nod32/Avast).
You guys recommend him CCleaner and similar to but who knows he's gota virus in his computer that makes his computer run slow, or his specs are very low
Ladies! Ladies. Get a room.
Well, I usually run Glary utilities, CCleaner, and JKDefrag and I'm running fine.
Startup delayer is good too! it is an app that launches other apps however many seconds specified after boot. Like clearing up traffic in rush hour!
Ahhh, this post crack me up. First of all, I never said there is anything wrong with overclocking. If you know what your doing it's a great way to get some more speed for your buck.
Now, from what the OP said his system has slowed down since he got it, and he wants it back up to speed. If he just overclocks or upgrades he'll get the same issue again.
Go read some computer 101 books.
he probably bought some prebuilt crap making overclocking not an option anyway
Could it be a crappy graphics card? Low RAM? We need answers man!
I would lol if he had under 512mb of ram.
I have no idea what you are on about.
CCleaner is good for alot of things.
Like removing history, temp files etc.
I use it to uninstall programs because it has faster loading up times then Microsoft's uninstaller
