My Aunt got scammed on Ebay

.

My Aunty bought me an 8GB USB for me for Christmas. I was experiencing a lot of problems with it like it corrupting every time i use it and very slow transfer speeds. I did a speed test with HD Tach and as you can see here the speed is quite slow at the start and fast at the end.

I thought this was very odd and at first thought it was because i had used around 2.3GB and using it slowed it down(pretty stupid thought). So i tried formatting it with SDFormatter 2.0 with overwrite on. I got the exact same results.

I then tried copying over 2.3GB to it as a test. I copied over 2.85GB of video and then tried to play them but none of them worked(in VLC, i didn't bother to test any other players). It then hit me that the partition table or whatever its called was probably hacked to say 8GB. How can people do this without feeling bad

It just makes me wanna do this to the guy that sold it to my Aunty

Don't buy memory/storage related stuff on eBay!

Common sense!

(EDIT: Where the hell did I pull "Knowledge" out? =P)
You never know what happened to it.

I'd report it to eBay as a scam.
Tell them about what happened.

You'll most likely be able to get your money back

Edit:
MisterNero, that is a bit stupid to say.
You can get scammed on absolutely anything.

That isn't common sense to not buy storage/memory related items on eBay.
You see a seller selling "8gb USB Flashdrive" - you expect to buy and recieve an 8gb flashdrive.

Correct, but it could be a malfunctioned unit, or even counterfeit, etc.

I would do what JPH suggested, report it as a scam.

Well, couldn't an iPod, Computer, Printer, Xbox all be malfuntioned/broken unit?
Or they could sell you an 160gb iPod, but only give you an 80gb.
There are tons of examples I could use.

So, let's just say - sometimes you can get "ripped off" with any product you buy, in real life or online

Unfortunately that is pretty common nowadays. c't, a German computer magazine, had a report recently that even large retailers here fell for that scam. That magazine bought a bad batch of USB sticks for subscribers by accident, too.

These USB drives are really hacked to display a wrong amount of storage. This was made intentionally, it's not a MBit/MByte mixup. You can copy the advertised amount of data on it, but it gets corrupted.

You've got the goods and it does work (If not very well). Don't think theirs much you can do about it. In future don't buy anything like that off ebay. I suppose you could always try contacting the seller to see if they will give you a replacement or a refund.
