In the space of a month I had 5 accounts hacked: I've been receiving emails of blocked attemps and/or suspicious activity. Besides obviously changing the passwords, is there something else I can do? I was able to retrieve a strange working IP, can I like report it or something?

@Hayato213 I have way more than that: google, microsoft, steam, spotify, discord, gbatemp... Maybe you understood that I had 5 accounts here on gbatemp..?
@JellyPerson LastPass seems nice, I'll give it a try. But is there something else I can do?

For something to be happening over that period rather than all at once is slightly odd (I would usually expect things to happen in a very short space of time). Check your machine, phone/tablet and whatever for malware or think what machines you have put passwords into -- it need not be that account either as [email protected] and a password you use for everything is OK for trying on other services.

After that it depends.
Make a list of all the accounts you have, and further all those you really care about.

I hope you don't reuse passwords for anything you care about. Password changing will be in your future though. Change passwords for everything on your freshly cleaned machine.

If you want to make a new email address and assign it all to them then I will applaud that.

If you want to use two factor (you type a password, it sends a text message to a phone or something) then there are worse things you can do. If you want to get really paranoid then go buy a cheap disposable/prepaid/pay as you go sim card and put it in a phone used just for that.

@Mr. Wizard @FAST6191 I didn't use 2FA very much but now that you mention it I should really start using it, at least for my important stuff. Thanks for the tip.
What I do want to know more about is if there's something else I can do. Right now I feel powerless while someone is just logging in to my stuff and getting away with it. MEGA.nz "caught" the IP and I was wondering if, by having that info, I can do something further, like report it to authorities or something like that.

If you can setup an account with 2FA do it. I had to have an account deleted from somewhere else because some idiot kept trying to get into it. I couldnt set up 2FA on it and everytime the person tried to access it kept trying until it ran out of attempts and the website emailed me to change my password. I would just go to the website directly and change my password. Mind you this a monthly occurrence and i was so sick and tired of it. There was nothing i could do. lol

I will echo what @FAST6191, it might be worth making a new email and/or ensuring all your security questions etc are changed to prevent someone just resetting your password again and getting access to all your accounts again

also just double check that someone hasn't added any recovery emails to your account

Lol, yea I'm a Xbox fanboy. I'm on Series X.

    @K3Nv2, lol, who does?
  • The_Dizzy_Vizzy @ The_Dizzy_Vizzy:
@BigOnYa, if I were to get a new/current-gen console it would definitely be the Series X. Do you, in your opinon and experience,, do you think that the Series S was a bad idea for MS, becuase between the Series X and S, the developers are building games to the lowest common denominator (the Series S), so you never really get to see what the X can do???
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
The S is still a good choice for half the cost can't really tell the difference unless you nitpick
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
I have a ps5/series s and it's hard to tell the difference tbh
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I've never played on Series S so don't know, but its not 4k, 120hz, Ray Tracing like the Series X is.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
You can upscale series s to 4k
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
    30fps prob tho
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Doesn't really matter your eye won't tell the difference
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
It's half the cost so you'll have nifty features but to the average I just wanna play Xbox there won't be a huge difference
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
If you got a nice gaming pc you can just get PC gamepass on that. Gamepass Ultimate lets you play on both console and PC.
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
You can even use smart tv/ firestick to cloud game off gamepass, but obviously not nearly as good, fps dips, low rez, long load times.

@Everybody, while I have a computer that can run plenty of games (inc ray-tracing, big FPS, etc), I am at heart a console gamer. I work in front of a computer 8 hours a day for 5days a week. Trust me, when I get home from work and want to play a game, it sure as hell won't be on my PC. I don't want to sit in front of a dual monitor setup (and yes I know I can hook my PC up to my TV but that would be missing the point), I like the simplicity and the informality of a gaming console. But I read all your responses and appreciate what you have to say about the Series S/X. Biggy menitoned that Series S runs games @ 30fps, not all games I'm sure, but I'd seriously be missing out on that 60 FPS. Once you go 60, 30 FPS is way down the ladder...

Yes I did, it says "@Everybody"...
  • The_Dizzy_Vizzy @ The_Dizzy_Vizzy:
Ok, I'll fix that, so long as I think I know what you're talking about...
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
@The_Dizzy_Vizzy yea if you can afford it, and your tv is a 4k HDR 10, then obviously the Series X is better, I forgot it has ray tracing also and the Series S does not. But both are good to enjoy games in current gen.
