First off, hi.
I would like to say I'm a beginner in this whole game hacking
deal so please excuse any ineptitude that may come up in my tackling of this problem.
Before I get to that, I want to show you what I've been able to accomplish
after a little research in changing music and your feedback.
In this video I was able to use the sound data from Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
and replaced the Elite Four battle music with it, namely the "Cornered" song when Phoenix
Wright has done one in on his opponent.
It took some Hex-editing, but my problem lies in the actual instruments, see I felt kind
of limited to the instruments I could use thanks to the SBNK file that the Elite Four
music uses...so I was wondering is there a way to exchange SBNK files out for a new one?
Namely, the only way I've found that is possible is to use Editor.exe, or kiwi.ds,
but it REARRANGES everything in alphabetical order and thus, messes up the
sounds and music of the game completely when I try to reinsert the sound file.
Any help please with that or replacing SBNK file period?

Nice name you got there. How do you pronounce it?

"Liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnneeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee?"

Or "Underscore-underscore-underscore-underscore-underscore-underscore-underscore-underscore-underscore-underscore-underscore-underscore?"

kiwi.ds' editor is a pain however Tinke ( http://gbatemp.net/topic/303529-tinke-072/ and http://code.google.com/p/tinke/ ) added serious SDAT abilities a while back including the ability to manually inject banks.

The trouble with most PW games is they often use two banks with at least one of them being common to several other sound tracks making simple replacement not that useful.

I did however do an example bank sacrifice (there is usually a seldom used sound effect, often for another language, that has a bank all to itself) and swap actually for Phoenix Wright 2 in my hacking docs http://filetrip.net/nds-downloads/utilities/download-gba-and-ds-rom-hacking-guide-2012-preview-2-f30026.html
If you end up having to actually add a new bank that can get quite a bit harder so do go in for the sacrifice method if you can.

Tinke! I knew it seemed familiar. I've ran into it before but I guess one wouldn't find it useful if they'r not hacking.

I'm okay with the Phoenix Wright, but there's BGM like Pinwheel Forest and Dreamyard that only has so few instruments to work with,
which makes an imported song (say Zelda) sound very...meh.

I'll give your ideas a shot and post results as soon as I'm able to.

Thanks!

Lol, the names up for interpretation, or just Cam.

By the way, is there an easier way to break lines or space them out on here?

The editor kept snapping them back into bunches.
Welcome to the 'Temp, Cam!

Try switching the editing mode, maybe that will resolve the line breaks problem you're having:

Hey guys, I wanted to update just so I won't leave this thread hangin'...I despise when people don't update when I'm looking for threads because they don't say if it worked or not....but Tinke worked!, but switching the SBNK files messes up the sdat so there may be something I'm doing wrong on a very specific thing but Tinke does do the basic of what I wanted to do, but from here it's looking like there's no way to totally modify the songs because it will definitely change the file size.

In any event, I'm glad to have Tinke for other purposes as well.

____________ Nice name there ;D
Thanks ! I think I've seen your name a few times from my anonymous/lurk days.

Oh alright, I figured. I thought there was a specific option I was overlooking but I guess that's the only way, thanks!

the vram is one advantage when it comes to AI but ends up being slower even with that and really AI is the only use case that needs more than 12gb vram right now

    Interesting lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think I watched a video where two games at 4K where eating just over 16GB of RAM and it's the one case where the 7900XT and XTX pulled ahead (minus RTX of course)
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
So my opinion is that they could age a bit better in the future, and maybe AMD will continue improving them via drivers like they tend to do. No guarantee there but they have done it in the past. Just a feeling I have.

cyberpunk at 4k without DLSS/fidelityfx *might* exceed 12gb
    +1
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but that game barely runs at native 4k
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think it was some newer games and probably poorly optimized PS4 or PS5 ports
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
they definitely will age better but i feel dlss might outweigh that since it looks about as good as native resolution and much less demanding
    +1

When I played Cyberpunk on my old 2080 Ti it sucked lol

AMD could introduce something comparable to DLSS but nvidia's got a lot more experience with that

least amd 7xxx has tensor cores which the previous generations didn't so there is the potential for AI upscaling

They have FSR or whatever it's called and yeah it's still not great
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
so AMD seem to finally be starting to take AI seriously
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Oh yeah those new 8000 CPUs have AI cores built in that's interesting
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Maybe they plan on offloading to the CPU?
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Would be kinda cool to have the CPU and GPU working in random more
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    Tandem even
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i think i heard of that, it's a good idea, shouldn't need a dedicated GPU just to run a LLM or video upscaling
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the nvidia shield tv has AI video upscaling
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
LLMs can be run on cpu anyway but it's quite slow

I had a girlfriend who had a twin sister and they would mess with me constantly.... Until one chipped a tooth then finally I could tell them apart.... Lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
They would have the same hair style the same clothes everything... Really messed with my head lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
@The Real Jdbye, I could see AMD trying to pull off the CPU GPU tandem thing, would be a way to maybe close the gap a bit with Nvidia. Plus it would kinda put Nvidia at a future disadvantage since Nvidia can't make X86/64 CPUs? Intel and AMD licensing issues... I wonder how much that has held back innovation.
