I recently got an HP Pavilion dm4-2180us PC.
I've been trying to install Microsoft Office 2010 onto it, but it keeps saying the product key is wrong.
Because it is supposed to be on the certificate of authencity, I checked that and the product key was there.
I correctly typed it into the prompt, and it identified the key as wrong.
Any ideas?
There's actually a program that prompts to either buy it or activate it. So I'm not so sure...

If you are sure you are entering the correct key, and it is saying that it is invalid, I would just return it to wherever you bought it from, or call Micro$oft and tell them your problem, they will probably just give you a working key.

I think its only a trial version, after 30 days you have to buy it or activate it via a product key card which you can buy

I'm going to second Originality's post. I have actually had a staff member come in with the same question and it appears they were trying to use the product key found under their laptop.
