I have movie in AVI format that I really want to put on my PSP. The problem is that movie is in French (Persepolis) and I have subtitles in srt format. Is there any way to convert it to mp4 so I can watch it on my PSP?

One of the programs created by the people who made CloneCD also made a program that is used for hard coding subtitles into the video.

Think it was called CloneDVD Mobile?

I could have sworn the MP4 container had softsub support ( mp4 is useless to me though compared to alternatives so I am afraid I do not play with it much) but if you want to hardsub the video the chances are you will have to re-encode the stream and probably drop quality.

Ways to do that. Avisynth/virtualdub and VSFilter:
    From there is basic encoding.

You can try PSP video 9, i've not tried it but have been told it works well. I've tried many types of psp conversion software, most of the time the video doesn't sync right.
