I don't think I ever want to drink soda again... it's unnerving to know that this stuff can supposedly dissolve a carcass AND is confirmed to eradicate motor oil...

    Yeah, and?
Unless I start hearing stories of stomachs and such being dissolved, I'll continue drinking it.
Keep in mind you'd have to keep it there for at least a year for it to dissolve anything.

So if you drink it, it'll make you all squeaky clean inside.

    I see no downside.

    No downside at all...

On a serious note: Maybe I should rethink soft-drinks... Or forget I heard this...

Weak acidic substances (like the ones that are supposedly in soda) only dissolve things if they're contained in them for a very very long time.

If you drink soda, it will spend seconds at best flowing down into your stomach, and then stay in there for not more than a day.

Even if the soda would remain in your stomach for months or years, which I'd think is practically impossible, your stomach is already filled with an acidic substance (probably even stronger than the acid in the soda), and thus already very resistant to such things.

So there is no actual danger.
But it sure is disgusting imagining that you may drink a jellified mouse and not even know it.

Just like Coca-Cola is confirmed to rot away your teeth. OH WAIT I FORGOT normal people don't bathe in Coke or keep it in contact with their teeth long enough to do so.

Stomach HCl beats it by at least 1 to 1.5 points in the pH scale, and a bit of Googling turns out a pH level of 2.5 for Coke, and that's "the most acidic" of sodas.

How accurate this data is, I do not know or care to find out, but while stomach acid (which has HCl) is diluted from pure HCl (0) to about 1-1.5 pH, sodas just don't compare to our very acidic stomach fluids. That being said, I love Mountain Dew and will not stop drinking it.

Why do I suspect that "Body desolved in Mountain Dew" will be the highlight of the next Final Destination movie?

"Mountain Dew contains one of the highest levels of caffeine of any soft drink"
Buy Mountain Dew that has no caffeine then.

    Coke > Mountain Dew.

There is known Coke for dissolving motors, oils, and such. I still wonder why Coke crap isn`t banned around the world yet

    Interesting...
Good thing they don't sell Rodent Dew here in Sweden officially. I'd stop consuming it, for sure.

You can dissolve sh*t is citric fruit juices too, all that really matters is how long the stuff was in contact with an acid and how acidic it was, so stop overreacting and read a chemistry book or something.

Soda's aren't *that* dangerous to the teeth since the teeth are being constantly washed by saliva. There are worse things you can do to your teeth than drinking a soft drink.

The only downside from soda is the headaches from caffeine withdraws. Guess that's what I get after drinking way too much soda then suddenly stopping. :)

Excedrin actually put me to sleep that night. :P
