Yeah, three groups are/were working on a patch: starmen, notstarmen & mother3.org. Two officially abandoned the project and after most of a year, the third has screenshots to show for it.

I've heard of several players getting through just fine with the story translation file and now that GBA is dead, I don't imagine any group would be putting in much more effort on it.

That is a reason for Nintendo not to translate it but it doesn't apply to a fan translation group. The GBA lives on in the DS and forever in emulation.

    Wait what?
    1) Notstarmen.net never had a patch. It's some kid who started that site a while back just because he dislikes starmen.net, and the whole patch this was a joke. (In fact the guy who runs that site helps mother3.org out, finding/recruiting members, and doing various other things...)

    2) Who abandoned the projects? Did starmen.net officially abandon?

    3) GBA is dead? Really? Mine works just fine. Mother3.org is still working on the translation. We're aiming for sometime before the summer months are over.

I read/posted an article a week ago about the Starmen.org announcement.

Yes, the GBAs demise does affect private developers. Look at the group that just released Motorcross GBA for free.
