More than 1 external drive or can you partition a HD for Wii U?

Hey all :) Ok i made the stupid choice of getting the 8gb white console simply to save $20. It has absolutely FUCK ALL storage capacity on it. I already soft-modded the Virtual Wii and installed the homebrew channel and have a 500gb external drive connected to it for my Wii games and also for all my media as one of the programs i have installed is WiiMC (Wii Media Centre) The problem now is the other day i bought from the Eshop a copy of Bayonetta 2 and it wasn't until i put a thumb drive in i found out you can only have 1 external drive. I've tried everything - googling to see if there is a hack that will allow me to have 2 but nothing there and also googling to see if there was maybe some way i could partition a section of my external HD that the Wii U would recognise for space but the clever pricks who designed it have made that impossible. I'm now stuck with simply no space to download Bayonetta 2... some help would be appreciated.

You cannot share partition between those for vWii and Wii U.

Wii U uses encryption along with proprietary partition format as a security measure, most likely to discourage hacking.

Simply unplug your external HDD (for vWii) when you are not using it.

Is there anyway i can turn off either drive by simply going to the options instead of having to get my fat lazy ass up off the couch and reaching inside a deep and dark tv cabinet and fiddling with a bunch of chords?

You can hide the partition with UStealth so the Wii U won't see it. https://gbatemp.net/threads/ustealth-wii-u-format-disk-nag-workaround.352786/ Then you can buy a cheap 250GB external that's externally powered and hook that up to your Wii U as the proprietary drive.

You can also buy a cheap USB extension cable so you can easily swap the USB storage, instead of reaching your hand all the way back to mess with it.

If you use a HDD that needs an Y-cable, and plug the power in the front, you should be able to disconnect the power on the front, and plug the HDD for Wii U games in the front so you wouldn't have to reach behind.

I actually don't recommend this approach. If you only unplug the power end of Y cable the external HDD may still try to spin the platter but fail repeatedly. My external HDD does this with your suggestion, where it makes clicking sound (it tried to spin the platter but couldn't so it kept trying).

    Just unplug it completely.

Thank you so much!!! I did exactly what you said there and it works!! I can now use my 500gb external drive for my V Wii and i had a leftover 250gb drive that i now use for the Wii U section. Whoever came up with this idea was a smart cookie alright!! You couldn't have more than one external drive or partition your external drive so instead connect two and then install a program that hides one of them from the Wii U - simple but BRILLIANT!!!

Having said that i just have one small problem now... I have my 500gb partitioned into 2 sections - 1 that is formatted to WBFS (for my Wii games) which is roughly 50gb in size and the entire rest is formatted to Fat32 which is for all my media. Prior to this Wii MC worked just fine in the homebrew channel but now it seems like after "hiding" the drive the V Wii can't recognize the Fat32 section of the drive which all my media is on. I found this link -

    https://gbatemp.net/threads/ustealth-wii-u-format-disk-nag-workaround.352786/

and if you scroll down there it leads you to this link -

    http://gavitex.com/share/fnafmwawh

and it's title is pretty self-explanatory but when i first added it to the apps folder on my sd card it didn't even show up on the homebrew channel. I then looked at what files were different between that and the previous Wii MC i had installed and the only difference i could see was an ELF. file so i deleted that and it showed up on the screen then but still it won't recognize any Fat32 data. I've also tried formatting that partition to NTFS and that didn't work either. Anyone know something that might work because apart from this 1 thing i've basically solved the un-solvable!! :D

I'm not sure if U-stealth even works on multi-partition drive.

I'm still puzzled about your setup though. Why do you use WBFS partition? That's outdated method. Extract your games and convert them into wbfs files. Then put those files in wbfs folder on a regular FAT32/NTFS partition.

I tried all that before and could never get it working... i never had any problems using WBFS so you know as the saying goes - "If it aint broke why fix it?" I can't really see how having everything on one partition would make any difference but i'll try it out.

Did you name those wbfs files in their respective GAME ID?

    Like RUIX4.wbfs, RL2HM.wbfs, etc?

I think it's to do with U-Stealth because i also tried out Nintendont and i only have a 4gb sd card so i have 2 of my GC games saved on that and the rest were also on my external drive and when i selected "sd" those 2 came up and worked fine but then when i selected "usb" it came up with something like "No Fat32 partition detected"

The apps have to be built to recognize the games or files on a hidden drive. That UStealth thread has a .wad or whatever it was called on the Wii for some USB loader. Nintendon't should be fine if you have the latest version since r238 added Nintendon't capability. https://code.google.com/p/nintendon-t/source/detail?r=238

You could ask in the Nintendon't thread though. Despite the forums having a craving for immaturity and childish behavior, that thread has always been helpful.

No i think you missed what i was getting at gypsy. I have WiiFlow installed and all my Wii games come up fine so i have no problems with that and as for those remaining GC games i had on the drive, i'll just buy a bigger SD card and have them all on there - the games aren't the problem. What is the problem is getting WiiMC (Wii Media Centre) to recognise the format that i have all my media on so i can use that too. As i said this little problem with WiiMC (not any of the game loaders) is the only thing standing between me and world domination... woops i mean everything solved :)
