Protesters are annoying. He got hurt which is what happens when police show up and you don't leave.
Fear the police.
Comply with the police regardless of whether you are breaking any laws.
Comply even if you are doing something specifically provisioned for in the constitution.
Surrender your rights.
Welcome to America.

Cops do you have more power than a civilian, you better do what they say whether you break laws or not. And I am sure it's not just me, I really don't like protesters.
Cops have the power to enforce the law. And that's it. That's all. What the flying fuck are you talking about?

Really? You don't know what I am talking about.. they have guns and... You know what? Lets just leave it at this. :yay: Also, glad to see I am not the only one who think protesters are annoying here on the temp. Good night all, signing out!

Oh my god. You should move to Texas. Power is different from authority. Just because they have guns does not mean they can shoot everyone. Just because I have a knife does not mean I can stab everyone. Just because my trainer is skilled in martial arts does not mean he can beat everyone up.

Are you retarded?

(Also "I'm going to bed" right after a retort is the worst cop out ever)
That did not stop the cops from breaking a skull and using tear gas on "helpful civilians". It's like you forgot what happened in the video. Relax a little, no point in getting frustrated over a user on the internet.

Weapons>Words. Sadly that has to be the case. Anyone who says they would not leave the area when a cop comes in with a riot shield is that guy with the fractured skull.

Survived in Iraq only to be done in by your own civil enforcement officers.

The funny thing about this incident and other similar ones is that there has been pretty much no media coverage regarding this.

It's like... it's like you think you live in a fascist state and have forgotten that you have a constitution.

am i the only one not in the know about these protests?

also holy shit, that's right outside the bart station on 19th street. my girlfriend was on a bus yesterday going from montclair to 19th street and the bus took a wrong turn and almost drove into the whole thing.
i didn't know it was that serious, she just said "woah it's crazy out here."

i work on 17th and telegraph and aside from the constant helicopters all week, i didn't notice any commotion. i walk past city hall on my way home every day. every time i saw people dancing. definitely not as tense as the oscar grant riots. i was so sick of looking at the murals from my office.

but seriously, helicopters have been flying around non stop, all day all night for the whole week. ive got to the point where i don't notice it because it's there all the time.

So I don't like protesters and you like slaves. You're the real problem in my honest opinion.

Get some balls.

Submitting to an authority just because they have guns is a pretty stupid way of thinking.

I'm just glad this isn't, and there will *hopefully* never be, a repeat of how things were handled in Tiananmen Square

Well yea, they have weapons don't they? Speaking of which how long has it been since the U.S. has had a full scale riot? Something tells me we're about to have another if things don't start getting better real quick. To think New York hasn't seen a decent riot too....

Oh jeez... with the amount of people there, that could turn nasty quick. However, I have a feeling that unless there is intense provocation by the police, things will stay under control. One of the big things about OWS protestors is that they are trying to set an example, show that they can make a loud point be known while staying quiet. Peaceful chaos, if you will. If they suddenly started a riot out of nowhere, they would be undermining their cause. They're trying to act like the bigger person, here. And you know, I think it's working. In most cases, they're doing little to nothing wrong, yet the police are attacking them.

Big difference between being brave, and being an idiot. Look what happened to that guy who got his skull split. If he could go back in time I am sure he would have never shown up to that protest. I guess in your eyes he has no balls, in my eyes he would be smart.

But if nobody steps up to the plate in place of being turned down one way or another (sent home, hospitalized, arrested, etc), who will? If nobody stands up, is any change ever going to happen?

Think of this the same way as business. In a business, if you have an idea, you back your idea, you push it into the market, and you pray to your god that it works and is a success and people embrace it. If you're protesting, you have an idea, you stand up to back it, and you pray to your god that people are going to be behind you every step of the way and embrace your cause.

If there wasn't anybody trying to protest slavery, promote civil rights, harbor fugitive slaves, just because they were afraid of getting caught and punished, we would still have slaves to this day. They were afraid of being caught. But that didn't stop them. Yeah, they were martyrs, to an extent. But hell, it fucking worked, didn't it?

Very true, but my original point is that people need to expect to get hurt when the cops show up and they don't leave. Honestly, I find protesters annoying, but I guess it really depends on what it is they're protesting on. Has to be something very strong for me to care, like a protest against slavery.

What the scouter say about the hypocrisy level?

So omgpwn. You believe that the police have absolute authority to exercise force in any situation, regardless of whether they have any jurisdiction, are acting under the law, or are violating American human rights. The American people should submit, you say.

And in the same post you tell us how opposed you are to slavery, a situation in which people are oppressed by those with power and authority, and who's basic human rights are ignored.

Man I love Americans. I'll bet you hate communism and socialism too.

You've basically displayed yourself as a wuss who would drop all his rights, all his self-respect and all his pride in the face of intimidation.

Which is exactly why people in power get away with bullshit.

People never get anywhere cowering and worrying like a little baby that they might get hurt standing up for what they think is right. Though chances are if you're a person who would cower and hide, you likely have no ideals to stand up for that your governing body doesn't already assure you you have.

Wrong. I said it depends on what they protest against for it to not be annoying, did not say it should not be illegal if it's for a good cause. Also, if they're there with riot shields force was probably needed. See what you tried to do though, very nice twist.

A protest serves me no purpose once I am dead. Don't fight the law, you can't really win, you can try but you will probably die. Not a wuss, I'm just not a dumb ass. And I have to say this again, expect to get hurt when protesting with cops closing in.

Edit: If you all want to comment some more (please do, I enjoy a good read) I will be back tomorrow to check them out. Stay fancy GBATemp. Good night.

Erm, whether protesters are annoying or not was not part of my post. Whether they deserve to have grenades explode in their faces for doing something specifically allowed in both your constitution and bill of rights was. Did you know that you hyave the right (and perhaps responsibility) to start a militia and state a coup on the government if it goes against the constitution?

As for the bolded part, that's just nonsense. You have absolute faith in the judgement of the police force. If they did it, it was justified. Does that actually make sense to you are are you throwing down bull?

Can I hug you, Veho? This is so true.

It doesn't help here that Oakland Police are already on a short leash as it is (due to their extreme tendency for overexcessive force, as evidenced yet again here), so this definitely won't help them out in the end.

Also, a majority of these protests are peaceful, as the topic title itself says. We in America are guaranteed by the 1st Amendment freedom of speech AND freedom of assembly (both of which are being used to their full extent in all the Occupy movements around the nation), yet it seems these guys never got the memo. >_>
