So lets gather up some people start this out eh? and the idea of patching the demo to play the full game is a good idea, and maybe something to bypass the monthly cost for online pay too

most of the text from MH3 demo is inside of main.dol, all in shift-jis
the text can easily be found through IDA Pro.

example:
Code:
???
???
???
???
???
???
???
???
???
??
......

here some items as text dump:
http://rapidshare.com/files/228481438/some_text.rar

Thank you for finding out and shareing text data.
I got it and doing translation of those two sample txts.

The text file includes name of items and it is pretty hard to translate than I imagined
because most of them are named by created words.
Need more imagination rather than simple translate.
It will takes time till I finish.

If there are people who can corporate in translation,
please give your force to!

If you register to this Monster Hunter forum: http://forums.minegarde.com/index.php?

There, they have a list of all items with the Japanese translations from other Monster Hunter games. If Monster Hunter G is just a remake of part 1, then maybe you can get help with items from this site. Again, you must register a username and password to view them I believe.

By the way, if we can bring PSP version and compare text data between
"Monster Hunter Freedom2" and "Monster Hunter Portable" (Japanese version),
it must save much time on translation.

so u guys think this is still possible? cuz this, i think should be the next thing for us gbatempers to work on. usb loader is pretty much at its max capabilities now so we should move on to this kinda stuff.
i dont think we should worry about mh3 demo though, cuz its coming out soon enough anyway in english
GC - USB loader?
tongue.gif

Run WAD Containers from USB?

Bigger system menu -> more channels able to put in (More pages)(This will load the system menu even slower), like SD Card menu...

Play DVD Movie's from Disc channel?

But that is all beside the point.

But, I amuse MH G is also coming to EU / USA, if MH3 is coming to there too...

that site is a really good start, i was able to translate some items/settings/monster from MH3 demo,
it's really easy to translate the game with MadEdit, i also found out, the demo has debug stuff and lot's of text from the retail.

The problem is, we need to relink most of the text, because in english it's too long
and I don't think it's worth the work for the demo, so waiting for the full begins ^^.

for MHG, i think that most of the text like Items/Monster/Menu is also inside the main.dol, so
next i will look into that and we can maybe make a partially english patch.
for the quests/npc text we need to decompress the files...

Capcom has officially stated that MHG will not come to EU/US,

Sven said: "You'll have to get it from an import shop. Neither MHG or that controller is coming to the US. Sorry. :("

Awesome dsf! To get MHG translated would give me something to waste time on for the next few months.

If anyone needs more general info, I guess you possibly try and fill holes by looking through the MH Wiki. It gives info about another English patch here: http://monsterhunter.wikia.com/wiki/MHP2ndG_English_Patch and it links to TeamHGG's site (the team that made the patch) here: http://www.teamhgg.org/

we don't need to find the offsets,
you can find them without any work with IDA Pro..
we need to relink them for a fully translation, but useless for the demo, it's to much work.

@jservs7
Get MadEdit: http://madedit.sourceforge.net/

and use it on main.dol from MHG, it's easy to find some text:
http://img164.imageshack.us/img164/9087/madedit.jpg

on the screenshot:
Code:
?????????????????? = This ticket is sold by Nintendo.
^^ easy

Don´t know i never used IDA Pro

but anyway if you don´t want to translate everything manually from hand it´s very usefull to now the text offsets especially for writing a extractor/repacker
