So I guess the pad is mandatory.

Also, here comes the "FPS TOTALLY MATTERS" parade, even though you would barely notice it and not give a shit either way.

Technically higher FPS makes the game a bit more "fluid" looking but it's really not that noticeable. Honestly if the game was at 30FPS and framerates weren't announced, people would probably not know the framerate nor would they care.

I can immediately tell the difference between 30 and 60 frames per second. To me it's a big difference. A difference i value and one i think matters. That extra fluidity is important to me. I am satisfied with 30, but 60 is very much preferred. Call me what you will, i genuinely enjoy a 60fps framerate as opposed to 30. And BTW, anything less than 30 to me can make me dizzy and feel disoriented. In the cases of lower or even extremely low unstable framerates, the effect can actually interfere heavily with my ability to play the game (especially when often the framerate can even negatively impact the control responsiveness). It's not as important in a slow paced game, but action heavy games definitely benefit from running more smoothly.

It's obviously something that is going to affect different people in a different way. To me it can be important. I'm not an elitist though, i am perfectly satisfied with 30, but 60 is an ideal number for me. Sure it's true that people would not have ever complained had the game ran at only 30fps constantly. But now that we know, it's a nice little enhancement to go along with it.

BTW, these youtube videos are all locked at 30fps or less, so you won't get the feel of the fluitidy. A guy on Neogaf posted some videos actually recorded at 60fps as opposed to the tradition 25-30, so it properly shows the real speed of the actual game. You have to download the AVI files and view them on your own player however. Here's a couple-

So I guess some people just don't know how to play with the touchscreen.

    Seriously who plays like that?

He has the right idea if he could use both of his hands. :P

I can only tell sometimes when playing a game. I think it is base on what game it is.

There's no magic fps limit on the human eye. Everybody is different and most people can see well beyond 25fps. I can notice the difference between 30 and 60 fps when placed side by side or one after the other and in some games(usually with non-first person views). A higher framerate is nice, just like better graphics are nice, but I don't mind lower framerates as low as about 24 before it starts to get too choppy for me to play it. People have different limits and preferences.

I really don't like the people who flip-flop about things like framerates or graphics(or any issues) though. That seems to be the stereotypical Nintendo fanboy, but I wonder if that is even true or if it's more of a matter of miscommunication. I think when most people say "graphics don't matter" what they really mean is "graphics aren't everything." I'm sure there are people out there who are like the stereotypical nintendo fanboy, but I don't think they are as prevalent as they seem. 30fps is perfectly fine, 60fps is better.

Not really, I don't see how using your thumbs wouldn't work. Also you can just use the button that puts the camera behind you again.

How did you get that the pad is now mandatory after seeing they now added a lock on feature/button? The demo showed the player move the camera manually once, OUT OF COMBAT. What was the point in adding the picture portion in the post?

It seems like the 3DS, nor Monster Hunter, is obviously not your thing. Honestly, tons of people can see the difference between 30fps and 60fps, but people probably don't see it as a major, game changing difference. On fast motion games, I'll say that there is a benefit to being at 60fps IMO.

I really don't think that first comment was serious...

I buy this, just to support this series. (of course 'cause I want it too.) :P

    Jokes: The Lost Art.

EDIT: But yeah, 60FPS is nice but no one would give a shit if it was a constant 30.

Well, some people obviously do feel that it is mandatory. Hell, the OP added some picture about people holding the 3DS in crazy ways.

The joke is that the new way to control it is so shit that the slider pad is basically mandatory if you don't want to suck at it.

Well, guess I haven't been looking into this game that much. What's so different about how this one plays compared to the new control scheme that the PSP used (as opposed to the classic PS2 scheme)?

The PSP one is bad but it's not pants-on-head retarded like this. At least you can just buy Freedom Unite for $10 and play it with a real control scheme on the Vita.

The thing is which FPS speed is visible depends on what's being displayed. For example most people don't know that most movies run at 24FPS because they use post-processing like motion-blur and such to hide it... and whether a slow framerate is noticeable or not often depends on how much of the visual scene changes at once.

For an RTS or something like that where much of the visible scene is unchanged (or changed little) between various frames a low framerate has a minimal impact... whereas with an FPS where the entire contents of the screen can change at once very quickly (the player turning around quickly and such like that) a lower framerate is more noticeable.

The 60FPS number that's most often tossed around is because that's around the limit of human perception when it comes to the types of media most commonly displayed on screens, but most importantly most screens sync at that speed anyways so any framerate above that is not physically displayed.

It's not uncommon for handheld/console games to run at 30FPS or slightly less.

As long as the game is enjoyable and the framerate isn't THAT bad to the extent that you can see every frame, I don't mind

Huh? Framerate? You mean that thing I never care about? It's going to have 30-60? Cool I guess.

Now What I really care about is that I may be needing to grow another arm or hand...

HAHAHA They can't be serious with that diagram...

Well, personally I'm not getting the slider pad. It looks like I won't be getting the game if I have to play like that...

Huh... The game seems quite playable with those controls, the finger positions are kinda exagerated, but it's not hard for someone to control with them... Anyway, I sure want the game to get released in europe.
