guess i'm still not sure what snaking is then, cause costello's "turbo drifting" sounds more like what i do. and yeah...LOTS of practice...

Snaking is simply mini-turboing on straights instead of only on corners.

I believe that Costello was simply referring to only using mini-turbos on corners.

I've beaten 150cc Mirror without snaking, and the lowest rank I've ever gotten on anything when I get first place was a B. I have gotten 1 star on a quite a few as well (especially 150cc mirror lightning cup, aka Hell on Earth).

Ah, I don't see what's so bad about it though. I don't try that to often though seeing as it takes me to long to get the orange sparks so I end up turboing into the grass.

Oh yeah and its great that they fixed up the rule about the number of wins after multiple dropouts.

I've had 2/3 people drop out on me on about 5 occasions.

It's like I can't find a medium on MKDS I either get my arse owned or I absolutely flog them (and they drop out), where o' where are the average players!

Well it's bad when someone is really good at it.. They can catch upto you in no time at all.. Both utilizing power drifiting and snaking..

I was able to beat the entire GP without snaking and trust, I'm not that good.
I also always play Friends or sometimes Rivals.

All the average players? Why they are offline ofcourse o-o
Hotspots are not easy to find >.< And Highspeed access is not easy to get where I live cuase we get the Sacromento rates since they put new houseing down here >.<
Best thing to do is leech off a friend or neihbor.

Im a pretty average player, and Im not too bad at MKDS.
Im curently working on getting stars for my name and god extra junk like that cuase this game is jsut so freakin fun

Much better than the GBA game, though I was hopeing for like a GBA cart bonus. Like say importing levels or ghosts or something. But oh well.

As for Snaking, whats the big deal? Its not that special. Sure if you dont snake and they do it gets a little annoying as they easily kick your ass and you dont get much of a chance, but its really not that hard to do. Its alot easier to snake in MKDS then it was in prevoius MK games.

Besides, if someone snakes and you dont want them to, then use a shell on their ass and ram em into the grass. Should put them in their place

Though light weight chars kinda need to snake a little to actually get somewhere and just driving forward not doing anything gets boring.
Honestly it would have been nicer to have 150cc online instead of just 100cc class.
Now if the other player(s) do nothing but snaking and dont even bother to interact with ya. Thus making the game sorta pointless since they are focusing on time instead of actually playing. Then Id dislike it cuase its a pretty stupid way to play. Ya dont go online and play agisnt other poeple just to go your seperate ways and never interact with each other.

And ofcourse thats what makes playing in person so much better.
If your friend does that, then you give em a good kick in the shin for being a dumb ass

Ah if only MKDS has MIC comunicatoin :/
Give a nice way to yell and complain xD

This is awesome news and I find it awesome that they can change this on the fly too. I kept thinking to myself, "Maybe they will make a second mario kart on the DS sometime with the disconnect issue fixed". This rocks!

I can't help but chime in here with this topic. I for one would love it if my router were compatible with Nintendo WFC. As I've posted in the Technical Issues Forum, thread here, I get to the 4th race and it freezes. I just sit idle and then after a few moments I receive the error code 94030. Of the half dozen or so times I've attempted to race using various router settings, I have only be able to complete one full 4 race circuit. I have no clue what my record even is. Granted, I'm sure 80-90% of the disconnects are "sore losers", but I'm defending myself as well as others who are still having the disconnect woes. I guess its time to let the flaming begin...

*Writes his name down on the "DIDNT SNAKE" list* I finished off the game without snaking at all, and quite easily too. I found this Mario Kart was the easiest to clear in 150cc/Mirror.

On topic now, the change is great to hear... even though I still haven't been online longer than 2 seconds then connection dropped. Long enough to generate my friend code though! I'm surprised that they could change these things though.

Snaking is a technique like any other to give you the edge, it's competitive out there online.

Its like saying that people shouldn't use items on me because I fricking constantly lose by getting shot with a blue shell right on the finish line.

I'm sure it's been said already, but that rule has been in affect for quite some time. It's nothing new, unless you get three wins when everyone disconnects, and the race never finishes.

This is not the first game ever where people could "snake", and certinaly not the first where it generally looked down upon. Fact of the matter is that mini-boosts were obviously meant for corners, given the obvious fact you have to turn your kart to obtain them. I say we keep them there; and I'm not just saying this because I cant snake; I'm actually perfecting the technique so I can beat some of the absurd staff ghost times. But I absolutely dissaprove of it in an online setting.

Oddly enough, I've just been inspired to learn how to snake. The idea has occurred to me, but I've never actually tried it before.
