Let that soak in: $33 million. All those dollars, slightly eroded by Paypal fees and taxes, come from around 800,000 alpha version adopters, who picked up the game at €9.95 ($14.26), and over one million beta version sales at €14.95 ($21.43). Currently, the Minecraft stats page lists 1,813,527 customers, pegging revenue at slightly above €23 million ($33 million).

The figures come from a Reddit thread, where Minecraft creator Markus Persson (AKA Notch) shared the figures -- a level of success he admitted he's somewhat uncomfortable with. "I've always had a tendency to feel like I'm just not quite keeping up with demands, even before starting work on Minecraft. It's not gotten better by having a runaway hit like this."

The latest update for the game, version 1.4, launched last week, adding a host of new features to the game. A documentary is also in the works.[/p]

I'm not surprised. It's a very addicting and customizable game.

    This is great and all...
...but 1.4 killed all of my mods! [IMG]
I love the game, but there are some exceptional mods out there (though I avoid the "cheat" mods, they just make the game less fun imo)

Do you know how long it's gonna take to download and install 1.4 versions of EVERY Minecraft mod I have (I have at least 25-40 mods, so I think you can understand)?

This is why I play on a clean server.

Well deserved though- brilliant execution on such a basic idea. Looking forward to what the future has in store!

    Holy... WOW.

That's a lot of money for one indie game.

Can it even be considered Indie anymore? lol.

    Great game.

Actually, I've never played online. Because I was saving up for a 3DS, I never had the money to buy it, so I downloaded it can only play off-line. Good news is, I did get the 3DS, so when I get enough I'll buy this.

Man, what rock have you been under? [IMG]

Technically, it is free. You just can't go online with it. Though a few severs provide support for the Pirated version (TempCraft being a notable one). Honetly, one can only tell you how awesome it is. You either love it, or don't see it.

Eh.. 1.4 kinda killed it for me.
Wolves make the game simple, and they screwed with water. Now it's impossible to move AT ALL across a floor with water.
Oh yeah, that and 1.4_01 adding NOTHING but breaking mods ALL OVER AGAIN.

It's a server run by GBAtemp member Antoligy and a number of other people.

As for the amount of revenue Notch is making, I'm not surprised.

Good for Mojang. Studios like them deserve the money they get, and its people like me and my friends that are proud for giving a tiny sum of our money for hours (days, even) of gameplay. Don't pirate the game: support Mojang.

He is totally trolling. He comes and says that all the time when people talk about MC.

Well Notch is a member of the Swedish Pirate Party. If anything you should support his political aspirations and pirate the game!

It's pretty fun, but I think it's one of those love it or hate it types of games. It all depends on how much imagination you have and what you can do with a rather limited amount of physics and objects in terms of overall creation. I generally make massive roller coaster rides which include plunges into lava pits or deep lakes with waterfalls to drown you.

Ehhh to anyone complaining about mods breaking....they always break...after a update....Minecraft isn't the only game like this

Thats why you wait for modding support to come out...mods should break less then
