4x the resolution doesn't mean 4x the visual quality. Most of that's limited to the textures, lighting, and polygon count. Higher resolution should mean cleaner rendered edges, though, but that quickly reaches a limit where that's anything more than a negligible difference. Hence, I was hoping for some actual examples of 480p OG XBox vs XBox One. You know, to actually gauge how much of an improvement it is and whether it's meaningful. Extra clean lines might mean very little.

Great. How do you begin to successfully google for this stuff since google can't differentiate xbox from xbox one? And load time speaks of relative of S to X or speak of the original xbox without an relation to the xbox one. Ie, where are your stats from? Btw, this is why I asked these questions because it's not as trivial as to google it.

Honestly, it's more the load time that would matter to me than improved visuals. And a 2x improvement is nice, but it's not that compelling.

I just saw this video, I don't have an Xbone but Microsoft has been doing some crazy work with BC:

EDIT: Original X360 is not as blurry as that, see below (it did seem kinda weird to me).
The Xbox One X version still looks really good though.

I have both morrowind and live and reloaded as discs and i can play them on my 360.How much better would the emulation on the one actually be.

Looking on Youtube, I've also seen videos like Silverthorn

Here's the thing: they're clearly cheating. By that I mean, the original XBox image is blurry as if it's running at 480i. But it doesn't have the patterning you get from compositing. So, they're clearly running it through a deiterlacing that's blurring the image. Compare that to a video made some time ago which is clearly running at 480p (as Fuzion Frenzy doesn't support 720p):

I see the same thing in Silverthorn's video: they're clearly using compositing and deiterlacing that's blurring the ground and the edges of his hat. Compare to:

You could make the argument for the OG XBox that most people didn't have component cables. But the whole selling point of the XBox 360 was that it was HD. So, it looks like a great example of making the XBox 360 look in the worst light.

PS - This isn't to say that the XBox One versions don't look better. But it's not nearly as striking if you don't use a lower resolution, deiterlace image.

Edit: Replaced my RDR comparison video because Youtube kept giving me 480p videos when I asked for HD. Even then, my example video was clearly better than the one others are using. This new one is at 1080p and is therefore a more worthy comparison.

what i dislike about their backwards compat is that you put he disc in and then instead of dumping the isc you just download the entire iso from their servers... so it means without internet there is no backwards compat lol, they should make something that works offline imo.

Yes they should, it means in a distant future the xbox one won't have backwards compatibility when the servers shut down, it frustrated me when I wanted to play mass effect and I realized all my disc based games cannot be played because I lost the internet connection for a while, only digital games worked somehow.

Wow, I just realized that it's the normal Morrowind, and not the GOTY edition. So, you cannot play the Morrowind with all the expansions. :(

If it's like other BC titles, it will run as good or better than the original hardware. The BC team at MS is getting better about not releasing broken games on the BC service, like they did when they first launched it. Halo Reach was especially dismal at the time, but now it runs better than on original hardware.

tbh i just cant see that hapening, it would be fun if nintendo or any 3rd party ip actualy bought them since from the use microsoft gave to rare ips they are better off on other developers.
    microsfot brought rare in 2002
banjo and kazooie only got a crappy racing wierd game called nuts and bolts and that was it for x360
perfect dark got a very bad sequel too on x360
conker got a censored remake on original xbox.

the only saving grace was they letted a thrid party studio remake the first perfect dark for them and they made rare replay, besides that they never did a single thing for their bought rare ips seems like they are just letting them die down.

how can microsfot with games like halo suck at making a perfect dark game? its their main genre an futuristic FPS...

Why would they need to take notes? It was the Song PS2 who had the first CD backwards compatible system in the first place.

Because Ps3 to ps2 BC was VERY choppy for alot of games, and if u inserted a disc u already own you didn't get a free PSN version download if it was out on the store even for PsX games. Also non of there emulators upscaled resolutions til the pro came out. Ps4 doesn't even run psx game discs....so yeah they need to take some notes. Love Sony too but they could do better in the emulation department.

what very choopy? ps2 on phat ps3s ran almost perfectly, unlike xbox360 that had the worst backwards compat i ever saw, even compatble games had frame drops left and right and texture errors and even crashes...

sony didnt made backwards compat on ps4 wich is a shame.

PS3 backwards compatibility really wasn't choppy. Just not optimal. Backwards compatibility of the PS2 was perfect.

Imma refer you to this compatibility list https://ipfs.io/ipfs/QmXoypizjW3Wkn...on_2_games_compatible_with_PlayStation_3.html

Alot of games have game breaking bugs or just very awkward ones. Heck this list says KH2 is fine but it has the same glitch in the tron worlds boss fight that makes the game unplayable that pcsx2 use to have. Maybe choppy wasn't the right phrase...but I played my entire ps2 library on my ps3 back in the day and nearly all of them ran into problems. KH2 freeze, Tales of the abyss locked up after a certain fight, Silent hill 4 almost made me catch a seizure lmao. The good ole days.

Morrowind widescreen, designed for controller play and at 60 frames per second?

Insta-buy for me been waiting for this since they announced backwards compatibility

    — Posts automatically merged - Please don't double post! —

It's not up to Microsoft but to 3rd parties, mostly a licensing issue. No wonder almost every Microsoft title has been ported to BWC.

The emulation has its pros, we can play these games widescreen with better resolutions and textures, but I agree hardware level bwc would be better.
