Gaming MH4u save data tranfser to new 3ds xl and vice versa

Can anyone help me?
I cant seem to transfer the 3ds save games from MH4u from old 3ds xl to new 3ds xl and vice versa. It says it has to format, data cant be used

What can be the problem?
