Gaming MH3, how to hunt in desert.

In MH3, how does one access to desert for hunting without going trough a quest ??

In order to get Res points? Not possible.

However, when you reach hunter rank 9 online you can take a gathering quest which if I remember correctly takes place in the desert. After a short while you'll get supplies delivered which include the ticket you need to stop the quest. You're still under a time limit, but you can do whatever you want since the goal of the quest is to deliver that ticket. Not sure if this quest is available offline...
