So to start off I was finally starting to rip more disks I own, and sadly like many people I tried to rip Metroid Prime Trilogy, but it will not load anything, it loops back to the HomeBrew app list. I can not get a clear answer on what might be wrong and most help loops me in circles, as I check other guides and people discussing this. USB Loader GX sees it, but it will not load anything, I have spent over a day trying to find out why and I'm not sure. I need to rip more Wii games to make sure others work, but I wanted to get good help to narrow down why the rip is not loading anything. This game has driven people crazy for years and I now see why, I can not get it to play but at least the app sees it. I will try other Wii games later, I got the GameCube game Viewtiful Joe to load so that worked. I know other threads and stuff discussed this, but all the help is just looping me in circles, so a new topic seems best to narrow down my personal problem.

I will get on that later, I downloaded the zip folder and I will use it likely after getting up. I was likely going to sleep but thanks for getting me in the right direction to get help.

Hi, you don't have any cIOS installed so I'm surprised you were able to boot Viewtiful Joe with USB Loader GX. You should install d2x-v11 cIOS (with ModMii for instance or by following a recent guide)

I have Priiloader, I have used it before. I have a NAND backup. The fact Priiloader is not showing is weird as I know I have it running. I will give you both the whole I need to edit the IOS, Priiloader works. When booting to the Wii menu I have the do not need to press A setting on and I can move the Wii disk channel, as for Viewtiful Joe a few people said when running GameCube games that you never needed to edit the IOS, I though it was edited but I guess not. I will get on that later, Prooloader still is working, but it has been so long I can't time the pressing reset to boot it, but it must be working if I don't need to press A, and if I can still move the Wii disk channel.

Sorry you are right about Viewtiful Joe, I forgot it was a GameCube game and that Nintendon't was running under IOS58 with AHB access (no cIOS needed). For Priiloader it is indicated in your SysCheck : "Priiloader installed". So just install cIOS d2x and you should be fine for Wii games like Metroid Prime Trilogy!

I though I did, but I guess not. The help is good. I have D2X, I was going to make sure it gave me the IOS. I though I had edited the IOS blocks, but clearly not. So all I need to do is run the D2X to get all the edited IOS files right?

I will update the threat if it works, I though I had does this. I mean clearly not, but I though I did.

Okay this time I used the IOS, then as soon as I enabled USB loader GX to show Wii games it crashed, I also have Super Smash Bros Brawl on the USB drive, but as soon as I tried to load Wii games after putting the IOS files on the Wii USB Loader GX crashed.
Post automatically merged:

I used the <d2x-v11-beta1>, should I try other cIOS types? Other old guides bring up beta52 d2x-v10-beta52. Before I go messing with anything I would like a good tip on if I should try and reset or change anything.

Your SysCheck looks good and v10-beta52 is very close from v11-beta1 for HDD compatibility. If you want to try a different cIOS you should look at v10-beta53-alt, which is a different branch (v10-betaxx-alt being the continuation of v9, whereas v10-beta52 is the continuation of v8-final and v11 is built on it).

But maybe before that you can check your version of USB Loader GX and how it start? On the top right corner of the Credit screen (which is on the last page of USB Loader GX settings) you should have information on the IOS on which USB Loader GX is running and if AHB access is granted.

Another potential cause of issue could be your harddrive: how is it formatted? What is the path where your Wii games are? Where are the games coming from, iso converted in wbfs? Was the iso clean (dumped with CleanRip or checked against Redump dat file if downloaded)?

I will answer in chunks, it's a FAT32 drive as everybody said to use that. I formatted it to FAT32. My rips are from CleanRip, I used the Wii Backup Manager to convert the ISO files to WBFS. My rips have all been CleanRip and it is just the Wii games being odd. GameCube works fine, and my Wii rips are Metroid Prime Trilogy and Super Smash Bros Brawl at the moment, I wanted them working first before moving onto other rips. Version Rev1281 IOS249 (Rev 65535) + AHB (d2x v11betal base56) As for paths the Wii rips are in the root of the drive in the wbfs folder, Wii Backup Manager converted the files over and dropped them in the folder, so I though the path was correct, unless I need to change something in USB Loader GX directly. Only Super Mario Galaxy will not rip at al with games I tried, I need to clean that disk, but this is not about that. Been converting everything on my PC, and it all seemed fine file wise with setup on what folders are storing the games.

I know that, my problem is the fact that newer updates should have fixed this, but I am now getting errors where my hard drive is not even loading Wii games. Before a few updates it did at least show Metroid Prime Trilogy. With changes to cIOS and a few other things, I though I had what I needed to boot the game, so mid way into getting help my problem is now the drive errors out when trying to show Wii games at all, Metroid Prime Trilogy is infamous for giving you the runaround. While staying on topic here, if I get it to work the rest should run fine enough. My whole thing for the past few days was years of this coming up, people always fail at getting the game to boot, and people say new changes should have fixed that.

Your setup seems fine (Wii and drive), so the only explanation I can think of is a compatibility issue with your drive. Can you try another drive? Or d2x-v10-beta53-alt with base 56 on slot 249?

Maybe the DVD drive is dying and as a result you end up with bad rips. Smash Bros and Metroid Prime Trilogy can be especially taxing since they're dual layer DVDs. Try ripping them again, or if possible try playing them on your PC just to make sure the games are not the issue.

Don't have another drive to try, the main reason I was doing this now was because of a price drop on the drive I wanted to use. I can mess with settings later and a CIOS change. I feared that my dumb luck would mean the drive would not work with Wii games, GameCube works so it would be my luck to end up with a drive that will not boot Wii games. As for that other cIOS how should I change that?

Super Mario Galaxy will not rip at all, and I know the disk needs to be cleaned, Nintendo had fixed my disk drive many years ago because it would not read Metroid Prime Trilogy at all. It could be a bad rip, but the fact that the copy of Super Mario Galaxy is being weird over a few scratches shows that Metroid Prime Trilogy and Super Smash Bros Brawl, where at least well off enough to not hit a disk read error. It could be a bad rip, but the rip seems fine enough. And this PC is not really one that runs games well. I was thinking about testing the games using just the SD card for a bit, that way I could see if the rips worked. The SD works fine.

Some other things you could try:

Make sure you're connecting the hard drive to port 0 (the bottom port when the console is sitting horizontally).
Try the latest version of USB Loader: https://github.com/wiidev/usbloadergx/releases/tag/v3.0-r1281
Try loading a game from your SD card (go to settings, hard drive settings, and set SD card mode to on). If games work from SD then the issue might be the hard drive.

Fun update time, so the SD card works, I was getting a bigger one for more uses but I finally got the USB drive to work, however Super Smash Bros Brawl is in fact what is making the error, that is odd as Metroid Prime Trilogy ripped fine, I was trying one more CleanRip use to redo this game, so to help sum up many problems in case people need the help, an SD card works wonders on the new version, and with some settings changes Metroid Prime Trilogy now boots on my hard drive finally, the next somewhat off topic thing is getting my Super Smash Bros Brawl to load right, if anything I am more confused by the fact the Wii was able to rip the Metroid Prime Trilogy and not Super Smash Bros Brawl. Like the Metroid Prime Trilogy I was using 3GB ISO chunks as 4GB can mess with some older Wii types.
