Hey guys I don't know if this is the correct place to ask this. But I recently got a PAL copy of Metroid Prime for the Gamecube and burned it with IMGburn and it reads it just when I play it it shows a black screen and plays sound which I think corresponds to the opening of the game. Am I missing a step when burning Gamecube games like a brickblocker for gamecube games or something??? Thanks for the help.

Using an NTSC TV and US console, right?

Most TVs sold in the US have partial or no PAL support. And most US model consoles can't output PAL video either.

You'll probably have to patch the image to force NTSC mode.

So how do you do that is what I guess I am asking now then. IS there a program or do I have to do something manually?

You'd want the USA release anyway because it runs in 480p.

You probably don't want to run the PAL version, other than curiosity.

PAL games lack 480p mode. So it won't look as good if you've got a component cable.

So does GCOS actually change the video mode of PAL games to run on USA Tvs or no?

no, only if the game already supports it. For a lot of pal games it's just not possible.

So why is it so hard to find USA games compared to PAL since few people can use PAL?

Most console game development is done with 60hz in mind. And virtually all on PC or handhelds.

PAL is a large market when it comes to end users, yes. But not many major game systems were originally designed for 50hz. Since Nintendo/Sega/Sony/Microsoft/etc, were founded in NTSC regions and their corporate HQs are located in them too.

Pal actually displays in 576p, which is a higher resolution and better than 480. Most television which arent 5 years old have inbuilt progressive modes to enable this. The trade off is the 50-60 hz.

    No idea. I think GC doesn't support 576p. Only 480i, 480p, and 576i.

na its the same. the GC and wii both have 576i options over here. If you have a halfway decent tv you can enable it via the tv hardware giving u 576 lines with progressive scan. You are restricted to 60 HZ tho which is a shame. Some games like zelda and the like the extra speed doesnt matter but for twitch games like smash bros and mario kart its probly better to play with 480p at 60 hz for the speed. Online aswell you will be more compatible.

uh if you go progressive scan it's usually always 60hz anyway. the wii does not allow you to choose hz when you have chosen 480p.

    There's a few 60hz-only games if I recall.

Isn't it true that progressive scan was removed by Nintendo from all games released in PAL regions, but PAL systems will still output 480p if modded to run NTSC games?

    no, thats not true.

as I've said there are 3 options on PAL wii's.

    576i

    480i

    480p EDTV.

Thats exactly the way they appear in the menu screen and they all work.480p for 60hz and 576p for 50 hz. Its not that complicated.

He was refering to the Gamecube. And he's correct, since I don't think there's any 480p PAL GC game. There are a few 480i/60Hz only ones though, Metroid Prime 2 for example IIRC.

There are. If you got a release GC in PAL regions, it had 480p. However a few months after release they cut it to save production costs because...lets face it...most people who bought a cube didnt know or didnt care about progressive scan being that this was about 5 years ago. But release consoles did have it. and a few games did support it....win waker for one...and i think f-zero did aswell. long time ago tho, its hard to remember. I had a release console coz i bought mine on launch day. Its pretty common info for PAL stuff. ya can google it [IMG]
