Two years after its initial release, Metro Exodus will be getting a significant upgrade. Back in November, 4A Games announced that Metro Exodus would be getting a free upgrade for current-generation consoles. In a statement on their website today, they revealed more detailed plans for these upgrades, as well as announcing a newly enhanced edition for PC.

The original version of Metro Exodus on PC made a big show of its ray tracing, which unfortunately couldn’t be delivered on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One variants. Current-generation console versions, however, will not only support ray tracing, but will apply the specific ray tracing techniques developed for the Two Colonels DLC to the base game and all other expansions. The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions will be running at 4K and 60FPS, while the Xbox Series S version will hit 1080p and 60FPS. There are also some console-specific enhancements as well, such as support for haptic feedback on the PlayStation 5 and support for Smart Delivery and reduced controller latency on the Xbox Series. These new console versions are expected to release sometime in 2021.

Newly announced today is the Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition for PC. Similar to the console upgrades, it will be free for anyone who purchased the PC version on Steam, GOG and Epic Games Store. It will support additional ray tracing features and DLSS 2.0 on NVIDIA hardware, and 4A Games claims it is so extensive it will require a Ray Tracing capable GPU for its minimum specs. It’s expected to release “later this spring.”

Finally, 4A Games gave us an update on the previously-announced Mac and Linux versions. The Mac version is expected to launch on the Mac App Store, Steam and Epic Games Store in March, and the Linux is expected to hit Steam before the end of the year.

Surprised they're not calling it "Metro Exodus Redux"

Nice they're giving the upgraded version for free on PC though, everyone should be doing that shit.

EDIT: And hey, Linux release is nice too!

I fear a lot of "new" games will just be old games with a graphic filter like it happened on the PS4.

PS4 Okami is just PS2 Okami with a filter to make it look better for example.

Imagine comparing ray tracing to screen filters.

Single biggest part of this is that DLSS2.0 is included. That's going to fundamentally change the game.

I'm hyped. Glad I only played a little before I gave it up.

Ehh they kinda are comparable, ray tracing is literally today's version of the generation bump where PS4 remasters just added new lighting and HDR filters to PS3 games. The devs are doing basically the same thing here by slapping ray tracing onto an old engine/game and calling it a day, it's just a mild visual upgrade

Very fine move for them to put it out on Linux as well. My body is ready and so is my Linux Mint.

Imagine selling something as new just by adding a new coat of paint to it.

Imagine doing so and making that something somehow WORSE.

Edit: Raytracing is a fancy graphic effect, it may make games look better but it doesn't make the game actually better. If looks were all that matters Sonic and the secret rings would be one of the best Sonic games ever made.

For this, but for any older than PS4 game it will just be basically like the PS2 games ported to PS4. Selling an old game for more money by adding a fancy coat of paint to it. And remember that games now cost 70 bucks.

So that's 30 extra dollars for something you could do in an emulator for free, no need of piracy just running the original game disk on your PC and letting the emulator make it look better.

Granted I have no clue how advanced is raytracing in PS2 and PS3 emulators is but it will eventually get quite good.

It'll be on GoG, which will have no DRM. No need to crack anything
