I have a GBA SP I bought used for $20 and I am having issues with games freezing and not being recognized.

These same games work perfectly well on GBA player and DS and DS lite so I feel the cartridges are clean and not the problem.

It seems to difficult to get a q tip in there with some alcohol. I was also going to try some brasso and put it on the cart and do the insert remove insert remove cleaning method but I was a bit worried I might mess it up even worse.

Anyone else have similar issues with their GBA that they were able to fix with some cleaning?

Contact cleaner (not the automotive stuff -- that is designed to cut through actual grease and other nastiness) is good stuff ( cleaner&origkw=contact+cleaner&sr=1 ). It is quite expensive though if you just have the one item you need it for. I fix electrical devices though so I tend to keep it around.

You can go a bit cheaper with something like

Also chances are you are not going to get a live safe one (they are even more expensive) so take the battery out when you are doing this.
