So my Switch is collecting dust in its original package and I thought maybe its time to put it to use.
Is there a way to run ReiNX or any other CFW without having the FW at all? Or my only option is to update to something like 4.x.x without burning any fuses?
Or should I just let it be and wait for an emunand option?

I ve been wanting to play a few backups but don't if its worth it ruining a FW 1.0.0 console(as I understand they are really precious) instead of just waiting for a more appropriate solution that takes advantage of the 1.0.0 situation.

Thoughs?

You can update without burning fuses using a program, but the real issue (I did it) might be about the game cart slot getting updated, we don't know exactly how cold boot will work, but if your gc slot gets updated by using a payload that doesn't support nogc then it might mess up your coldboot chances, I will say tho that I do NOT regret having my gc slot upgraded, having backup support is really cool and coldboot/emunand still have no release date. So what I'd do is backup your nand, update without burn to 5.1, then use ReiNX with the file that doesn't update your gc slot, that means either adding a blank file named nogc to your ReiNX folder or not adding the file, I forget sorry. Oh also you can install fakenews using a copy of puyo puyo Tetris Japan version then do a backup of that then you will have a restorable version to backup to. Sorry on my phone and kinda in a hurry so this is probably unreadable.

Thanks mate, you ve been really informative. How did your gc slot get updated? Accidentally?

They have FSR or whatever it's called and yeah it's still not great

so AMD seem to finally be starting to take AI seriously
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Oh yeah those new 8000 CPUs have AI cores built in that's interesting
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Maybe they plan on offloading to the CPU?
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Would be kinda cool to have the CPU and GPU working in random more
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    Tandem even
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i think i heard of that, it's a good idea, shouldn't need a dedicated GPU just to run a LLM or video upscaling
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the nvidia shield tv has AI video upscaling
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
LLMs can be run on cpu anyway but it's quite slow

Have you ever been beaten by a wet spaghetti noodle by your girlfriend because she has a twin sister, and you got confused and fucked her dad?
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I had a girlfriend who had a twin sister and they would mess with me constantly.... Until one chipped a tooth then finally I could tell them apart.... Lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
They would have the same hair style the same clothes everything... Really messed with my head lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
@The Real Jdbye, I could see AMD trying to pull off the CPU GPU tandem thing, would be a way to maybe close the gap a bit with Nvidia. Plus it would kinda put Nvidia at a future disadvantage since Nvidia can't make X86/64 CPUs? Intel and AMD licensing issues... I wonder how much that has held back innovation.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i don't think nvidia wants to get in the x64 cpu market anyways
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
you've seen how much intel is struggling getting into the gpu market
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
and nvidia is already doing ARM
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i don't think they want to take more focus away from their gpus
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Yeah I think Nvidia s future lays in AI GPU acceleration stuff if they can get that going it's going to be super interesting in the long term
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
AI assisted game creation might become a thing
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
At least that's something I think would be pretty cool.
