Metal recording attempt

So yeah me and my buddy have been doing some band rehearsal the last two weeks and we made a couple songs. I play the guitar and he does the vocals for now so we don't have a drummer or bass player yet. We just get together drink some beer and make stuff up, well he has had his lyrics that he put together since high school about 4 years ago and now he is able to use them.

It's kinda weird stuff but I'm sure it will form into something better eventually once we get a drummer and bass player. Anyway let me know what you guys think, let me know how we can improve our noise lol.

In the intro, there was this guitar..
Going low, and out of nothing, like, a very high peak.
And that a few times..
The peak was just weird..

I want more of a six feet under sound eventually. Now that I hear the song again it does seem like the harmonics on the intro should be removed so that's what I'll do.

Inhale/Exhale? What does that mean?

When we started playing a friend said most of my guitar sounded like sfu and I started listening to some of their music afterwards. So sfu is pretty new to me, I didn't intentially go for that sound but I like it.

Yea, they are kinda good, but I would like them better, if there was just a little clean vocals in it.

Oh, in and exhale..
Well, you can growl/scream, while breathing out (exhale), but also, while breathing in(inhale, which is, easier.)

Yeah your work is still pretty much in progress.
What i noticed is that your guitar wasn't always in time, so if you have a drum machine, try playing along to that.
your pinch harmonics are pretty well done actually, its not easy to pull them off. it sounds a lot better though when you bend and then put a vibrato on top instead of just bending the harmonic (thats what you did in the first couple o seconds).

with the recording: your guitar sound was pretty good, nice and crunchy, but it was a tad too loud. you need to turn the guitar down for a bit and turn the vocals up. I'm guessing from the sound of it that you guys only used one mic?


but hey, you guys got the main thing right. just try to work with the tips from there.

@acoustic.digital - thanks for the pointers definitely needed for this indeed work in progress. I have been practicing the harmonics for a while thx for the comp. I will work on the vibrato instead of a simple bend.

It's either my guitar is really loud or his vocals are really loud depending on which port I have plugged in to my amp. I have a two ten amp with the mic amp plugged into the input and the headphone output goes to my laptops mic input in order to record both at the same time. Since there are two inputs on my amp those two vary in sound for some reason. I have a drum machine on one of my pedals so I will use that for sure to get the timing right.

As a fellow musician and guitarist I feel the need to first commend you on the harmonics ...
But as acoustic.digital stated it was pretty much always off tempo (Remember when your playing with a lower tunning the rhythm becomes a little more noticeable) so try using a metronome or a drum machine to tighten up your rhythm ...
As far as recording you made a big no no using your computers mic input (your basically clipping the sound and adding distortion to the signal by using that input) go with the Aux input instead (the Mic input is usually boosted by the pc which accounts for the inconsistent signal) ... and please record the vocals on a different track so you are not stuck with either the guitar being too loud or the vocals ...

A great multi track recorder is Audacity ... Give it a whirl ...
overall sounds like a great beginning ... let me know if I can be of assistance to you in any way (current guitar Major at M.I.)

Thanks for the compliments again guys, we have a drummer now and possibly a bass player (I'll have him try out soon). I tried Audacity a while back, its really good although I prefer Cool Record Edit I like that software alot. I also made friends with a guy that has a recording studio in his garage very nice and professional so we will record that way when we are ready.

BTW we have 3 solid songs with the drummer. I'll upload all of our songs when we record at my new friends place.

I think you shouldn't have had so many pinches in the intro. It makes them seem more special and noticeable when used sparingly, you know what I mean?
And also, listen to what the guy said about giving it a vibrato.
When i'm running through my madison divinity 2 I really make that bitch squeel.

and they were right to say you were off time quite a bit. It is harder to keep time without a drummer or any other music, but I suggest investing in a drum machine or a metronome.
If you're practicing in your room, I suggest running through a small combo amp, finding a free online metronome, turning up your speakers, and just practicing.
it's what I used to do to save money.

Hmm. What are you running through? Do you like your tone?
To me it sounded a bit muffled, grungy, and a bit too bassy. What are your EQ settings?
It may be just me, but I love there being a bit more treble for a more noticeable difference between palm mutes and whatnot.
