The Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance lead platform is the PlayStation 3, developer Platinum Games has revealed.

Platinum games is using its own engine to create Rising, and PS3 is always the lead platform, producer Atsushi Inaba clarified on Twitter (via Andriasang).

Why? Because it wants to avoid the mistakes made with action game Bayonetta, whose PS3 version was developed externally and suffered as a result in comparison to the Xbox 360 version.

From Vanquish onwards, Platinum uses the PS3 as lead platform to ensure both versions are of equal quality.

The reason why fans saw the game played using an Xbox 360 controller in the making of videos Konami released this week is because that's what the development team uses to control the game on PC, which is used for cross-platform development.

The Xbox 360 controller is the only official option - Inaba said he would like someone to make an official PS3 solution, too.

"So, in closing, Metal Gear Rising's lead platform is also PlayStation 3," Inaba said.

Awesome, PC gamers will get ANOTHER inferior port.

PC has to be the leading platform, why won't devs understand that?

Consoles are the main market, having PCs as their main platform would make the console ports much crappier than the PC ports you have now.

Hell, at least there's going to BE a PC version; I expected it to be canceled after Platinum took over.

If PC is the leading platform, the console ports will suffer. You may not like it, but most people buy their games for a console. It makes no sense to weaken the console versions to improve the PC version.

Well I'll just say that the consoles get plenty of "downgraded" PC ports. But when console gamers complain about their games being unsatisfactory, they get bashed because everything should be developed for the "PC master race". When the tables are flipped, everyone gets up in arms about the PC getting an inferior version.

The street goes both ways honestly, I've personally had to deal with pretty mediocre ports of PC games and my PC gamer friends have had to deal with mediocre ports of console games.

    ???
360 won't have any problems; look at Vanquish.

Platinum use PS3 as the lead platform because that's probably the console with more development problems.

I'm curious what games you've played for consoles that were bad ports from the PC. I'm not calling you a liar or anything, I just can't think of any off the top of my head

Dragon Age Origins and Dragon Age 2 have severely downgraded graphics.

Battlefield 3 is supposedly a rather poor/downgraded port.

Let's not even get started on Team Fortress 2 in the Orange Box.

There are quite a few significant games that have gotten shitty downports from the PC to consoles.

I can't honestly know how people like consoles better (and I have both a PS3 and a 360), but to each his own, I guess.

Yet it's such a shame to see potentially great games do a lot worse than they could just because they still have to get ported to consoles.

Guess that the only thing I can do is hope that the new console generation comes as soon as possible.

    Wouldn't YOU like to know?
I can understand why it can be difficult to get games to run perfectly on every PC. Each PC is different, with varying components and specs from model to model. But we know exactly what's under the hood of every PS3 and XBox360. There should be no excuse for a game to suffer performance issues on a console. Games should be developed around the capabilities of the console specs.

About the controller thing, there's a program out there called MotioninJoy, with officially signed drivers, that let's you use the Dualshock3 on the PC. That's the closest you can get really.

Don't fret, the next-gen is coming soon.

Since those consoles should be comparable to a high-end PC for at least a few years, there will be no need to gimp things so it runs on consoles.

Their option to make. Not yours.

You might not like it, but Konami's seen a lot of success on Sony consoles. Get over it.

Since the focus on the Kinect was dropped, this seems pretty logical. It should be fine as long as they keep the differences between the versions minimal.
