I have an old 2004 Dell 2001FP monitor (http://reviews.cnet.com/lcd-monitors/dell-ultrasharp-2001fp/4505-3174_7-30588561.html) that kind of broke. Well, it didn't break, it just has a bar of weird colors going down 1/4 fourth of the screen (after seeing the pictures, you'll understand).

It's hard to describe what's wrong with it in words, so here are some pictures:

I was playing Counter Strike: Source when this first happened and when I took these pictures.

Is this impossible to fix without taking it to a monitor repair shop? Is there a way to fix this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

you might want to switch out your monitor for another to make sure its not your graphics card. Same thing happened to mine except it was the whole screen. I restarted and found out my graphics driver crashed.

This happens to me if I'm using too much power from a single surge protector, like if I have a monitor, computer, tv, ps2, and other things on at once, there are moving bars.

I know it's not a problem on my computer side; I don't have it hooked up to a computer and when I turn it on, I get the bar of despair running down screen.

Before, I had 2 monitors hooked up to my computer and I had DualView and it was nice and my other monitor was working fine when this broke.

I'll take a picture of it's current state now and upload.

    Please automerge.

Sephiroth, I just tried to connect it to a wall outlet, however the bar is still there. (It was in a surge protector)

And here is how it looks now:

The FABULOUS bar of despair... ?_?
