This week's hardware sales

Week 20 of the Media Create Japan top 20 is pretty stale, with hardly any movement both up and down the chart.
We do, however, have a brand new title in the #1 spot with The Caligula Effect: Overdose for PlayStation 4 debuting with an unimpressive 20k units sold.
Nintendo hold 14 of the top 20 spaces with 12 of them being Switch titles.

Hardware numbers are almost the same as the previous week, with no noticeable movement.

In all honesty, i feel like if sony releases a new handheld soon, it will be a massive hit. With the current status of events(3ds sales and switch pricepoint), a fresh new dedicated handheld would be wonderful.

the vita was released at the switch price point, if Sony did release an handheld it would have to be better than the switch really so the price point would be the same or more, and with the reputation Sony got with the vita, i don't see people willing to support a console that Sony themselves don't.

The PS vita was too advanced for a handheld when it was released. It had the potential (it had power for handheld) but was wasted because of bad marketing decisions.

1. The vita was launched at $250 price point which was later adjusted to $200 to compete with handhelds like 3ds. The starting price was a blocking gate for gamers and people remembers the vita as highly priced. Even after the price cut.

2. The price of the dedicated PS Vita Memory cards are way too expensive. For a handheld aimed to be a multimedia device as well, memory cards are too vital and this caused the buyers to turn their backs. Even with a price cut, the memory cards are too expensive for them and it will cost you like 300 bucks or more. During that time, it was on a price more expensive than a PS3.

3. Because of the 2 reasons above, the PS Vita didnt sell very well for the first 2 years and it was never accepted for the time span. During that time, Sony was just recovering from a heavy profit losses because of PS3. The PS3 was never profitable until its last few years and with the PS vita selling poorly, they cant afford to lose any more money. PS4 was 2-3 years away and when they predicted the PS Vita will not get any attention anymore, they abandoned the system. Staying away from the system as much as possible so they will not lose any money anymore.

If they had learned from the past, im sure sony can get back to handheld market. The PS4 was a huge success. Gamers trust sony product and the game genres they provide are well accepted. Plan decently and execute well, the next handheld console will surely be welcomed with open arms. I myself included.
